So the guards big hats that come in at around 2K each and are made from actual Canada Bears fur. To reduce costs and save bears the pressure group PETA (People Eating Tasty Animals) would like them to use faux fur in future. However MOD "sources" say that such a replacement material has yet to be properly developed. "The MoD said: “We are open to exploring faux fur alternatives if they pass the necessary requirements." However, the ministry spokesman said a fake fur version would have to satisfy "safety and durability considerations" and that "no alternative has met all those criteria to date". https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4gly3l8y45o So do we maintain tradition or use something else and will the general public who only...
An interesting read, seems the two winged master race could be in trouble when taking on AI in future combat senarios. Yanks throwing big bucks at it and we have two guys from Cranfield Uni with a lap top program that could fit on a phone. The future your unmanned fighters computer circuits against my unmanned fighters computer curcuits https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c3g3413p1gxo
Normally our lords and masters wait until they have left the services before going off message. But the head of the Army has seemingly gone off message whilst still in uniform. " General Sir Patrick Sanders said much of the Army’s ‘platforms’ were ‘outdated’ and ‘not fit for purpose’, and derided our reservist force as neither ‘capable’ nor ‘credible’. The head of the Army likened vehicles such as Warrior and Challenger 2 to ‘rotary dial telephones in an iPhone age’." "He said: ‘I trained on the 432 armoured personnel carrier in the 1980s when it was already 30 years old; it is still in service today." So, if he's right, all the bright shiny toys aren't nice to play with but are old and seriously outdated for the modern battlefield...
(If true) It seems our brown colleagues are having bother with their new mobile targets. Imagine that an MOD procurement running into millions that is late on delivery and doesn't do what it set out to do. It beggars belief that this kind of ineptitude keeps occurring surely by now in these budget conscious days where every thing is scrutinised and every penny is monitored this sort off c0ck up should have ended. Whose name and signature is at the bottom of the contract? https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9665055/Defence-minister-concerned-no-one-knows-army-tanks-noisy.html "The government is 'very concerned' about noises and vibrations in new Army tanks that make them practically inoperable. Jeremy Quin, the minister for...
OK it's the Mail so there could be some journalistic licence but. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9155897/Army-faces-cuts-10-000-soldiers-audit-month.html "Serving soldiers are being offered up to £12,000 – to persuade musicians to enlist .......this is the first time the Royal Corps of Army Music – which is made up of 14 bands, 753 musicians and 27 training teams – has had to offer incentives" 753 musicians and 27 training teams in 2021 WTF
I reckon we could design a Royal Air Force fit for the future. I'm starting with getting rid of Typhoon and buying 150 off the shelf F-16 multi role aircraft. Loads of spares available and loads of fun with monofuel starters for the mechanics to deal with. To plug the gap left by the Hercs, I'm suggesting we buy a fleet of 295's https://www.airbus.com/defence/c295.html Oh, and amalgamate the Royal Marines and Paras into the RAF Regiment 😆
So to stop the man power drain selected skill sets within the marines are in for a 20K payout spread over four years if they stay in uniform, particularly the ones with some tech knowledge such as flying drones, directing precision air strikes etc. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8514103/Elite-commandos-offered-20-000-bonus.html We had something like the marines scenario many years ago, bonus at 41/2 years and then again at 7 years maybe it's time to reinvent the bonus wheel using bigger numbers.
An interesting piece in the Sunday Times today. Apparently the British Army is contemplating a cunning new plan to disguise the fact we don’t have enough armour. The plan? Using the technology used to inflate swimming pool lilos and bouncy castles to make a range of new military ‘inflatables’ (something I’m reasonably sure they did during the Second World War!). An official report has concluded (allegedly) that the Army should boost its ‘deception capability’ to counter its lack of mass. I wonder when we will see a range of inflatable aircraft, airmen and other assorted military kit?
Just like ASDA with apples seems buying your F35's in bulk really does bring the unit price down. Now apparently after a 15 year+ development program they are a bargain at only £110M each. Seeming arriving on our ships and shores in the summer https://www.portsmouth.co.uk/news/defence/new-jet-prepares-to-swoop-1-8335609 "So far, the order of 48 fifth- generation jets has cost the taxpayer about £9.2bn — £110m per jet......Mr Linstead said bulk orders would help slash costs significantly. ‘We’re absolutely determined to drive down costs for our customers,’ he says. ‘For example with the F-35a...we have driven down costs by 60 per cent since the first production lot. ‘With the F-35b..........we have reduced the costs down by 40 per...
Not from some lefty, ban the bomb, anti forces focus group but from a former Tory defence minister. Sir Mike Penning who served eight years as a Grenadier Guard, said: 'Someone has to stand up and say, enough is enough. We're down to the bone now. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5278373/Ex-defence-minister-warns-against-cuts-military.html If he is right its not a very rosy picture he paints
As 2017 nears to an end, it is about time that we had an open and honest debate on E-Goat about the future of UK defence and in particular, the impact that further cuts will have upon the Royal Air Force, the Army and the Navy during the forthcoming years. Anyone with open eyes and minds know this will be a reality facing those who are serving in the military of today. Without exception, everyone who is serving in the Royal Air Force at this juncture in time, are absolutely ENTITLED to have their say upon their futures. It's well known that this site is "watched" by the powers that be read these pages so go on. Do not hold back. Base your opinions upon fact and tell them exactly what you think about the way constant budgetary...
More pressure for answers to this long running and sad chain of events. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5124429/Fresh-inquest-Private-died-Deepcut-barracks.html "Attorney General Jeremy Wright QC said he was satisfied fresh evidence had come to light." "Lord Justice Bean, Mrs Justice Carr and Judge Mark Lucraft today granted the application at a hearing in London. They ruled it was necessary or desirable in the interests of justice' for a fresh inquest to he held."
