The blatant mod abuse is visible in the alteration of my user description.

If you aren't in the clique you will be destroyed. Thats the reason people in the RAF don't post or visit e-goat anymore.

We shall see.

Well at least youre still here mongy. TBH, you should be able to say what you like on here, as long as it's in the pigs bar. Can't remember what you were bullied over, but I'd hope it was just because of sensitivity to joe public.

Arrrggghhhh!
I hate it when you read a thread and see a pile of deleted posts! It's like missing the fight on the school field!

Concur. A sweeping set of deletions for "off topic contributions". Off topic or relevant? We shall never know. My off topic flipancy leads to a serious question. With decreasing forum usage should a Mod immediately delete a post (as has just happened) or fire a warning shot? I believe some Mods are a tadge too quick to exercise powers of deletion when those posts appear to be off topic (flagrant rule breaking aside) or contradict their personal and previously posted opinions.

Isn't it the nature of goat threads to drift Off Topic? If they were all deleted, there wouldn't be much left. Are there new rules on deleting posts? Genuine question.

There was a warning shot by a mod...........Me :)

It was deleted with the dross and was more the handbags that belonged in fight club and gave nothing to a serious thread designed to help matters :)

Hello everybody! my 2 penn'orth, unfortunately I don't contribute as much as maybe I should/could, (but I'm getting to be a bit of an old git nowadays plus I'm a bit out of the loop as regards the UK & the RAF). Anyway I still enjoy reading the forum, especially about "the good old days", keep up the good work!

The last page shows in perfect detail, another paradox of the Goat.

We want the Mods to prevent chaos in the more serious threads and yet they get ripped on the second they step in to calm things down.

You never know, a none-Mod may have even reported a post which prompted Chip to look into the thread......

Each Mod has his or her own threshold concerning warning shots and straight deletions.

A thread of mine in "Vent Your Spleen" has wandered along several paths over the last few days but that was not a "serious" thread and therefore, nobody had a problem with its meandering nature.

Maybe, just maybe, a set of black and white rules could be thrown out to the populous to ensure us mere mortals out here can no longer complain.

Posts could then be deleted "IAW". :pDT_Xtremez_14:

Off Topic
Prior to the deletion on this thread, there was a warning shot. Said shot was seemingly ignored and the deletion then commenced.

So there you go.

Have I missed something? I don't see any ripping of mods on this one. Seeing simply a list of 'post deleted, off topic' explains feck all.

Boys and girls...

For this thread please note..... Wobbly has asked for your opinions as he values them and wants to know what your all thinking. Lets just this once not get into a discussion or argument about it. Just give your own opinions and leave it at that.

If you's all wish to chat about it please start a thread of your own and then you can discuss away till your little hearts contents.

Here's a suggestion. How about the warning shot being PM'd to the posters as well as just being posted in the thread, That would give the original posters chance to modify their post instead of deleting it.
I was unaware of Chips post until I came on and discovered that Mono had jumped in.

I posted a general "Get back on topic and stop bickering post" This was directed towards 3 or 4 adults and in my view was more than enough action and I dont feel I should have to waste more of my free time to then PM individuals but I do of course take your suggestion on board for future reference.

I will take my leave now so that we can get back to what the topic was originally about instead of having to explain our actions.

I was amused by the earlier reference to the e-goat clique, and how if you’re not in it then you may as well pack your bags. Personally, I hate cliques and make a conscious effort not to get caught up with them.

Are the Mod’s in a clique? Probably.

Have I ever been bullied by a mod? Only once when I had a post deleted, in my opinion unjustifiably. I had spent ages writing it, putting in several strong points, only to see later a ‘deleted off topic’ sign. No warning or further explanation.

Do I care? Only in the sense that, from that day to this, I believed that the goat would be a better place without that Mod.

Why don’t we have a deleted posts thread in the pigs bar? That way, mortal goaters can formulate their own opinions over the deleted posts, or would that be like inviting us into the Mod clique?!

Chip I always considered your contributions to be balanced and well presented but I find this post to be crass and bordering on arrogant.
You accepted the invitation to moderate, with that comes resposibility
and that responsibility is to the forum and its users. You delete a post
you ought to have the courtesy to explain to the poster and the forum
why you did so. Please tell me you were taking the p*ss.

Name and shame.

Absolutely not, it is an assumption of incompetence, based purely on my own opinion and personal experience. The Moderator in question has obviously got issues, so I wouldn’t want to add to their mental imbalance and inferiority complex.

There's a few who think they are untouchable and, if it was possible, I would add them to my Ignore List without hesitation.

Clear these people out and replace them with those who want to do it instead of seeing it as an inconvenience. Also, make a moderator's term a period of 2 years maximum. Keep it nice and fresh and prevent the Inner Sanctum, or clique, from becoming too settled.

Good post KingGuin, by the way.

I actually had a post that was deleted and an explanation was given, so it can be done if needs be.

Same here. Trawling through an old thread I came across a post of mine which had been deleted so I PM'd the mod in question to ask why and he told me. Evidently I'd had a few when posting the original comment!

I think mods should be required to justify their reasons for deleting a post but at the same time I think those reasons are a matter purely between the poster and the mod.

One thing I'd like is an explanation of the difference between mods, supermods and admins since, from the perspective of an ordinary user, there is no obvious difference.

KingGuin,

When a moderator deletes a post, they generally give a reason for deletion when they delete it. It's a box that we fill in on the deletion screen.

However the reason for deletion can only be seen by donators and subscribers (and possibly a couple of other user groups). For anybody that is not in these usergroups, the post that has been deleted will just dissappear.

So, when chip did delete the post, he did have the courtesy to inform the forum, it's just that your access level to the forum meant that it wasn't displayed on your screen. For a lot of other forum members however the reason for deletion was clear.

Anyway, can we please try to keep this thread civil? Wobbly is investigating ways to improve e-goat for all of us, but it seems to have deteriorated into yet another slagging match.
