I have been a goater since the day after launch (I think) and found it refreshing after using the aircrew tossfest that is PPRUNE for a long time. Like anything on the web, after a few years it has lost it's shine a bit. I still use it for info when I need to but don't visit as regularly as I used to as I find a lot of it quite dull and repetetive, not as sharp and relevant as it used to be. I now just use it for reference rather than entertainment and that is a shame. There is nothing you can do but hope that we can all up our game to comment, amuse, excite and return the goat back to former glory days.

I have never been a serial poster but a lurker as I think it’s called.

On some threads there is a certain ‘clique’ and on others some of the elder posters treat like it’s their club and all others will be ignored, along with the attitude of some posters you know the one’s, the keyboard warriors, I’m just perfect me, if you don’t know that you must be rubbish at your job, spelling idiots and the like can make The Goat a very unfriendly place indeed.

Also, is there a need for current affairs here? Maybe military current affairs? Who really cares if Mrs. Miggins Pie shop has been broken in to, the relevance to the Goat is what? And some insist on posting a link but offer no opinion, why?

About 18 months ago, I think, there was a similar thread to this, I mentioned that current affairs takes up too much space, and 1 of the then more prolific current affairs cut & paste merchants pm’d me telling me to wind my neck in and then he informed me of the amount of threads I’d started and the amount he had started, what amused me was that he went to the hassle to find this information out!

Penguins Suck made I laugh. Where's he gone?

As for the recruitment questions, I'm happy to answer the same ones again and again. Its just like being in the office. We do highlight this site to candidates, so appreciate it when those asking bone questions are politely directed in the right direction.

I used to be a regular poster some years back.

I don't bother posting much these days because all I see are insults and arguments and no, it's not banter, it is the holier than thou, I'm better than you, what the hell do you know, kind of attitude.

Some people do come on here asking genuine questions. One recent thread was the chap that went AWOL and was giving himself up. Now, I'm of the same frame of mind as many - what a waste of time and effort slacker - but what do I achieve in posting that kind of response. At the end of the day, the guy was asking for help and advice. HE had the balls to give himself up and that, regardless of how misguided he was going AWOL in the first place, needed to be applauded and deserved a reasoned response. Instead, many people slated him and its that kind of attitude I can't be bothered with.

So now, I just check in every now and again to see what the latest rumours/rules/issues are and, thankfully I can ignore most of the rubbish that some people spout.

Just my two pennies worth.

The world of e-goat is no different to all the other internet forums that have sprung up over the last decade or so. They are set up and people with a common aim, interest, job, role or whatever join in - people from all walks of life all with different levels of knowledge and experience, both in the subject matter and life in general, different abilities to express themselves, different abilities to think and argue rationally and above all different tolerence levels of people who don't share their views, dont have their level of knoweldge on the subject, and/or dont do the job they do but a different one making them less worthy etc etc etc. Some are thick skinned buffoons who just blunder about making inane comments, others ignorant twots who think something must be true for no other reason than they say it is and others who are thin-skinned precious princesses who don't like being argued with or being told they are just plain wrong!
Initially there is a load of discussion, argument and flame wars, but gradually, like a party thats gone on into the wee small hours, people start to drift away. Why? Because eventually you just run out of new and interesting things to talk about. The same stuff goes round and round, the same posters say the same thing and people lose interest. And unless you can get a new injection of users or come up with something new to talk about then the party is over.

The goat has changed over the couple of years that I have been on it. I don't post as much as I once did but thats not totally goat related.

I do feel that number of characters have left the goat some due to leaving the RAF and hence not able to continue as before due to new work commitments. some for other reasons.

The changes that have been made like moving forums etc are not to blame and I just feel those that have happened because of the "world we live in" are just a shame.

I feel maybe that one or two people maybe have been a little hard done by in more recent times compared to when I first joined. However I do agree that there are some on here that are deliberately nasty, with little or no reason to be, and are different to the crew room wind up merchants. Certainly a lot of threads end far to early due to this.

As to repeating threads, well there are only so many subjects anyway and anybody thats been on here for a while will be aware of this. Lets face it in a crew room topics of conversation are normally limited to sex, sport, booze, job moans, TV, News events with the odd bit of help thrown in.

There is no quick answer to the drop off but my feeling is, if there was few less of the professional arguement/nasty comment merchants. Some of the newcomers might hang around a little longer.

Admittedly, there are a few who are too ready to stick the knife in but there are also a few that get offended too easily (even if it's in fight club etc). I do think folks ought to be a bit lighter hearted when posting and make it more of a laugh. There are a few occasions when matters ought to be taken seriously (can't think of one at the moment though) but some folk seem to make being serious a lifestyle. Lighten up yer feckers!:pDT_Xtremez_30:

He/She may have a point here. Relevant topics to the man in the uniform and the man outa it can be quite polarised. Perhaps current affairs can be used as a bit of an old geezers corner.....and whilst no-one has to go there, the relative proportions of serving and non-serving do perhaps make the site a bit of a "corporals club", atmosphere wise, at times.....

Well being the total outsider in all ways and always putting my foot in it... some of the threads have been fab (sausage in particular on one or two occassions) and a damn good laugh and guaranteed to make you smile.

But sometimes when a chap has asked something or made a comment on a more serious subject a lot are shot down in flames and yes men and women have to "grow a set" but sometimes there is a sheer bl**dy mindedness to keep them shot down. A healthy debate is good as makes you see things from different angle, live and learn and all that stuff.

I don't understand though why some folk dislike the trivia so much.. sometimes its needed to lighten the day and that's why you have all the different sections in the forum surely?

Swearing? again you asked for it to be in the right section and its part of forces life although one or two seem to have it more of the Queens English than most ;-)

Being behind the NAAFI bar serving you guys in sac's/cpl and where ever shoved for which ever shift... heard it all and seen it all on "do" nights etc... so I don't need to "grow a set"... but even I have to brace myself if ever felt the need to say anything on here.

I for one like to read daily trivia simply because it makes me smile. I like to read the debates and see others point of view. And the swearing in context doesn't bother me, personal insults sometimes a tadge too insulting at times tho.

Maybe more would post tho if they didn't think "the set " they had spent years growing wouldn't get ripped off, mangled and spat out ;-) (I say that in a joking way before you rip mine away from me!!)

As an egoat smallee of a few weeks its difficult to coment on its past but i love it.

Still miss the crewroom crack/windups and i left over 20 years ago.

Some folk do seem a bit serious and a few cabbages seem to have extremely high blood pressure but seem to remember it was like that when i was in.

Suspect that many old scroats like myself would absolutlely love this but simply dont know about it.

Civvy street is a complete culture shock and many take a long
,long time to adjust as camaraderie in most jobs is non existent

If you could email all old RAF personal on Forces Reunited i think you would get a big response,i myself found the goat totally by accident whilst looking for pension information.

Infact i believe the goat could do the job of Forces Reunited 10 times better and while that is not the primary purpose of the goat it would boost its membership and therefore the number of threads and posts.

No complaints from me!.

we are looking out for inappropriate or harsh behaviour....
Me too, they're often the best threads :pDT_Xtremez_14:

Well being the total outsider in all ways and always putting my foot in it...

Everyone is an outsider to start with, stick with it! :)

As I said before and will probably say again. I was directed here by 230Tiger and found the humour VERY much to my liking.
In my opinion E-Goat has changed because the Air force itself has changed, the people now have a different character to the old cold war warriors. It's the generation of instant comms. Internet in your pocket, phones with decent cameras. Youtube and Liveleak are sharing the sandbag stories within hours or even minutes of their happening.
We see cool stuff, the public sees irresponsibility and MP's jump on a vote winning outrage bus.
Very few civilians share your sense of humour, laughing at mongs is a beating offence out there.

I came for the laughs and I will stay for the laughs.
I don't give a monkeys jewels if someone earns more than me, even if he is doing a job I think is easy, I only care that I can pay MY bills and feed my family as no doubt he/she does.

I do NOT believe in E&D, the world is unequal and because of this we are "diverse" ! Live with it and move on.

More Jokes, less whining about pay and definitely MORE tits in the birds threads and stop posting stuff that makes the tax payer in me incandescant with rage... I avoid the Daily hate to remain ignorant of that S***.

Well THAT went on a little longer than planned :pDT_Xtremez_42:

Its only about 20% of the Goat that we ask you to mind what you type...and even then its mainly the 'C' and 'F' words we look for...Everywhere else in the crewroom you can let it rip with as much as you want...Isn't that enough?

I'll say the same thing as I said two months ago when I was asked.........
I've been a member of the goat for 4 years throughte rough and the smooth but it just got boring and far too serious for one reason and another.

I don't want to turn this into a mod bashing thread because on the whole I think the mods do a great job under somewhat diffcult circumstances.

But, some mods overmoderating when really posts could well be left alone, in my opinion. Does it really matter if a thread goes a bit off topic(it certainly doesn't when its one of the "gang"(not necessarliy mods) doing it!
And I guess thats another reason, some mods do tend to have their favourites who can say whatever and go off topic where others are having posts deleted for exactly the same thing.

Also the humour has all but disappeared along with a lot of the characters the goat used to have.

Maybe its just got too pink and fluffy I don't know but its certainly not the place it was when I joined and yes I appreciate there had to be changes along the way but for whatever reason its become a place of whingers and moaners and those who seem to be continually spoiling for a fight instead of a place where people once upon a time came for support.

Whatever happen to Adopt a Detachee? It rarely if ever gets mentioned these days and to be honest I would have thought it would be more needed now than ever before.

Like everything else, Forums are cyclic or can go out of fashion. You only have to look at Friends Reunited to see that its viewing figures are nowhere near what they were at its height. Personally, I don't post as much because..

1. I'm not longer in the loop to comment on a lot of the threads.
2. Other Forums are more applicable to what I do now.

One of those things in life.

I tend to be alittle more circumspect in what I write at the moment, as this site and others is definitely being watched and if they wanted to they could trace each and every person on here. If I have to hesitate before calling a mong a mong(or the like) due to some people not agreeing with me and then at a future point them wheeling my opinions out on an archive then I can't be ar5ed.

Q's along the lines of "how do I find out how much leave do I have left" or "how do I put a travel claim in" are wearing a bit thin now, as are the persistent links to news stories that seem to appear all too often which seem to be used as a post count improvement tool.

Bring back the days of having a laugh like with the days of Penguins Suck, Little Pob and threads along the lines of the legs thread etc etc as were the norm a few years ago when everyone on here seemed to like to have a laugh.

It does seem too serious at times here nowadays.

For a good while the Mod team were extremely worried about Big Pob...I mean really worried as he was in the area of earthquakes where hundreds died in Chile...He was eventually tracked down and everyone breathed a big sigh of relief but hasn't been around for a good while now sadly...

PS is as thick as mince and has probably forgotten his password...we'll email it to him to see if that helps the eejit.

It is honestly up to you guys to start threads with what you want in them...We've supplied the forums where they go for you to enjoy things like that so get on with it!

I reckon one of the worst things about the Goat is when you start a thread in what grips my .... and then people stomp all over it.
It's a useful little area to go and vent into. To have people just poo pooing it doesn't help, in fact it more than often gets the poster more irate!
I think what people want is to vent a bit and find that they aren't the only ones who feel the same way about their issue?

I'd go back to the pre pink and fluffy goat, if this is a virtual crew room, then let it be one! Not all pink and fluffy because little Jonnie's (who is joining the RAF) mum and dad are having a nose and we want to present a good image. The RAF and Armed Forces as a whole can be quite rough at times and as such places like ARRSE and Rum Ration reflect that, but E-Goat is going too far.
Stop some mods jumping in and stomping on a thread because it's going off at a tangent, unlucky, I call that thread development.
Bring back Penguin Sucks and ILLBW and Little POB.
and lastly

MORE PORN
