The future of engineering in the Royal Air Force?

The role of Protector Technician represents a new approach to engineering and brings together the traditional roles of Weapons Technician, Avionics Technician, and Mechanical Technician. This affords greater flexibility when deploying in support of operations overseas. Individuals will undertake all tasks up to the point that the aircraft chocks are removed before aircrew, situated at RAF Waddington, take control.

Seems sensible to have one person do the job of many in these cash strapped times.

However, What the heck is a People Operations Officer (POO). Did no one check their acronyms dictionary.

Also , what does HR mean these days, HuThem Resources?

PEOPLE OPERATIONS OFFICER

The wheel spins around again. Super techs, bods capable of doing all trades. Wasn't that concept tried about 60 years ago when the TSR2 was being developed.

I knew of one of the last Super Techs in the RAF back when I was a youngling on the shop floor of a well known Puma Sqn.

As Ground Engineer's of the large transport fleets need to have a system wide appreciation of all elements of their platform, is this not just a formal roll out of that role?

But sadly Cornish, that usually comes with reductions in personnel as we all know!! And the aircraft tech will be able to fix their own GSE soon as well!

Indeed and a B1/B2 LAE does all the roles in Civvy Street. A B1 LAE does the vast majority of them as well. Do more dog fooking stuff than rigger stuff in the main on an airliner.

unfortunately not, your a liney, techie, mech, fairy, MT, Armourer, and GEF. 'engineering trade' you might look at a shiny poster of a F35 in the recruiting office and work your whole career in GEF. I wonder what the core trade armourers think on the sqn working for less money but doing the same job?

Nice picture on RAF website of the 1st 20 who have just had a great holiday in the states training.

Counted 19 in the picture? obviously the 20th took the picture;)

Once you've done this course.....Are you on Protector for the rest of your career?
No you will revert back to your core trade until the rest of the Airforce/new platforms come online with the new 'Professions' structure.
