Cpl-Sgt 2016

Not sure if they have offered this to someone else - I'm guess no as the Desk has given me another week to "consider" the offer.

Spoke to a mate of mine (number 24) - she's been offered 5 Sqn on Mighty 90

Thanks for the info mate

So do you think you ll take the post? Or is that you done with the raf

Does anyone else know anyone offered past number 24

I'm not taking the post - it'll mean I'll be spending 1 day a week with the family, with the commute up and down and everything.

And as for being done with the RAF - we'll have to see if they carry out the threat of trying to post me as a Cpl.

I only have to get to Aug 17 to be elliagable for the pension, and with leave etc even with 12 months notice I would be finishing work around March 17. I'm only staying to top up the pension, and the fact I'll get an extra lumpsum at 67, something I don't get if I leave next year.

Do you feel better now and suitably superior to this person you know nothing about?

When it comes to promotions there is no 'management' of the move - well not unless you play golf and sell your soul to the chain of command (perhaps this is you?)

"a period of reflection may broaden a persons perspective of events and situations." - What the actual **** is that supposed to mean anyway and how is it relevant to this unfortunate individuals situation? Im considering vomiting after reading it its so full of ****.

When I was promoted to Sgt, they posted me to a location I did not want to go- I chose to accept because it was doable for the family and I. This is not the case for everyone and certainly each person is entitled to make their own considered choices - preferably without some knowitall smug git trying to give them some pointless 'career advice' - are you a failed officer or something?

Oh dear little boy, have I upset you? Never mind, I won't lose sleep over it.

I guess an opinion is unwarranted in your little world, as I said at the close of my post, 'Good luck for the future, wherever it may be'.

I won't lower myself to further berating your manhood, take it to PM if you wish, but don't hijack the thread.

Oh, and by the way....get some posts in lightweight.

I came off a PSB very highly a few years ago. I was offered a job (at a camp I didn't want) that 2 people had already turned down and was told take it or you'll get posted anyway as you've been in post 3-5 years as a Sgt. I'm not quite sure where the idea that coming off at the top of board means you should get a "good" post comes from, but in my experience it just comes down to where the drafter needs filling. As ever, the luck of the draw...

I'm not expecting a "good" posting - Northwood is my only negative choice. What is making me frustrated and at times angry is that I know of people further down the list who are being offered their choice of camps/jobs if they recined their PVR.

I know of jobs at the "next camp" over who have at least 2 Sgt posts coming up over the next couple of months - and IMHO are a lot more important than a NATO Network Monitoring job.

But what you don't know is how long the job you've been offered has been vacant for? or how many substantive Sgts are trying to get to the "next camp", in particular those looking for co-location or those returning from overseas or volunteer posts.

I'm not sure of the reference title but there is a priority list for who is used to fill vacant/upcoming posts - the last time I looked at it PSL people weren't at the top of that priority list.

and IMHO are a lot more important than a NATO Network Monitoring job.

You tell that to the guys who have been or will be carrying a gap if it's not filled. Trying to get posted into a newly-created post in your current location in a niche specialisation isn't going to help you nor the trade - I'm sure there will be a queue of people to fill that post. There needs to be a line somewhere otherwise it would be chaos with service complaints coming in left right and centre.

Threatening to post you, or actually posting you as a Cpl though if you are NOT longest in location also has service complaint written all over it.....

HTH (interested to see how this pans out)

With an open door to the desk would you be willing to take the hit for 18 months with a view to getting back to Lincoln?l ASAP?

Longer term if you sign on for 30 then you will have a fairly decent guaranteed wage coming in and a half decent chance of getting back to your area of choice.

As for staying in your niche job, it may be the case that you are the most experienced for the job, but would it not be better to share the wealth and allow someone else to have s crack of the whip?

FWIW I'm leaving a niche, desirable post that I've not long been in, to go to a fairly generic job. That said, I'm already looking at the positions register for mid 2018.

I'm not being offered LOS30 - just an extension of 12 months on top of the 2 years I've just been signed as a Cpl, it'll mean I'm running the risk of asking for a move in 18 months time to be told, as I was at the start of the year when I needed a break from the job I do now, and was told "sorry you less than 2 years to serve, the gaining unit won't get a full tour out of you so no your not moving".

And as for the niche job - we're struggling to fill the places we have allocated, for example we were due a Cpl posted in next month - now not coming as he's pvr'd. Like the trade we are having a massive turn around in cpls - we had 3 PVR's last year alone out of 6 cpls, plus one posted so the San can't afford the training burden of spreading the love around.

Take it from me - you still won't get even a sniff at a posting until at least 3 years, even if it's for something on the volunteers list.

38 and no more until Feb, or atleast what my boss told me after speaking to the desk. 30 immediate release from SAC-Cpl apparently so that might free up some of us to move on.
