Further service & continuance

Anyone got any better more recent info from a reliable source, not rumours!

Well there's plenty of goaters that have said they have been, or they know someone who has been given the 6 month elbow. Proof enough that continuance has been sh*t canned.

An ex XV mate got his notice delivered by mobile while he was travelling down here for a det last week.:pDT_Xtremez_09:

I was told at Manning last week that more than 200 letters have been sent out to people on continuance thanking them for their service. Offers of further service linked to promotion are unaffected but anyone thinking of signing on to 12 or 15 years has just 2 hopes right now.

The future is not very bright, I'm afraid, at least not for the next few years unless the SDSR is delivered by Santa.

I disagree with the latter half of this. Plenty of my SAC(T)s are applying for Further Service from 12 to 15 years, and all bar one have been accepted.

However, bear in mind that someone having done 12 yrs gets the same resettlement grant as someone leaving after 15 years, and suddenly it doesnt seem such a bad idea after all to get someone to do the same job for the same wage for another 3 years with no additional costs, training or otherwise.

Well i have just applied for further service from 12 -15 and psf better fecking hope i get signed on. If not i have 2.5 years left of bombarding them with 6639's! No doubt they will get lost!!! :pDT_Xtremez_42:

On a serious note how long does the paper work usually take to get done? I cant remember from last time. Obviously i have to squeeze a medical in as well.

Those who applied in Dec/Jan received their offers of 15yrs in early March. Having enquired on behalf of another lad who applied in March I was told they were doing a Further Service board at the end of May.

Curiouser and curiouser. What I posted earlier came straight from the mouths of the trade desks on Thursday, but as the day's briefings went on I got the impression that everyone there is speculating wildly, trying to second guess the impending Review.

I suppose the moral of the story is that it can't do any harm to stick the paperwork in.

I have spent the last few days being run around from PSF / HR through to High Wycombe and back I nobody will answer the most simple of questions regarding continuance, further service and LOS30.

Just in case someone here has lept through all the hoops here is my most pressing of examples:

I have a very fine chap (TG1) who got his third up a best part of 2 years ago. He is almost through all the courses required to have is offer of substansive confirmed. He was told (and expected) an offer to LOS30 would follow (currently serving to 22yrs, which is in about 8yrs). No such offer has come through and nobody is talking; OC Admin / BSW is non-the-wiser.

Anybody know what the current situation is as I would do almost anything for my best guys?

Regards to all.

There seems to be the problem, pre-requisite promotion courses are exactly what they say on the tin, no offer of further service will be offered until substantive.

Yes thanks for that - the point is that he has jumped through those hoops and has been offered substansive (courses completed, just the required paperwork to come), but no offer of further service. We are getting conflicting words on if/when an offer of LOS30 will be made. There is more than just a hint that no LOS30 offer will be made...

He's one of his best

He's one of his best

From another thread on here I believe they are prioritising offers of service and with 8 years to go your best buddy won't be near the top of the list.

Ah, when you put it like this it almost makes sense. It still seems a little rough on the chap; a bit of a 'well-done but...' moment.

I have just been turned down for extension to 12 years, with only three years left and looking at my trade which is 120+ so no joy for me in the next few years.

It could be worse. I know of someone on continuance who made the board. Just below what is being released. Instead of hoping he'll pick up promotion as they release more he's now got his 6 months notice.

Assuming you are on 9 yrs at the moment, you have no entitlement to a resettlement grant, which is about £8,000. Anyone on 12 or 15yrs gets this money.

This, I suspect, is why it is nigh on impossible to extend from 9-12, but still possible for 12-15.

Within the past three months I have had 5 SACs extend from 9 to 12. perhaps it is more trade based...

Edited to add: Another 9-12 paperwork came through today for another SAC...
