How about ...

All the databases that have to be updated.
All the pamphlets that have to be binned and new ones produced.
All the web pages that have to be updated.
All the proofing of all the updates.
etc etc.

None of that will cost 10s of millions, everything is online....quick copy n paste, job done.

I never realised that they would keep military pay & leave records etc. online.

Come the middle of July I will put a FOI request in and ask for the costs to date and expected future costs if the full implementation hasn't been completed.

Society changes, and consequently, the military, which is made up of society and defends society, must change also. I'm sure that back in the day, the old sweats were up in arms that flogging was banned. Something about embracing change etc.

Not necessarily. If JPA, for example, has the Ranks 'hard-coded' in (because they are not dynamic data normally) then any changes will require all the code to be scanned and every instance of LAC, SAC etc in drop down menus & the like to be replaced - that won't come cheap. On the other hand if they are user maintainable tables where Ranks can be added or deleted by an authorised user (some sort of super-user) then maybe it will be quicker and cheaper. Now run that process across all applications used by RAF personnel across defence and I would put money on some of them NOT having the option to easily replace AC, LAC, SAC etc without paying contractors to do it at a cost in both time & money. I reckon some systems may still have LAC & SAC in them in 5 years time.

Costs every time a PUID and log on name is changed. Good estimate would be £10s thousands just in MODNET id changes….
Better spent on fixing the MOD estate.

How much does an individual PUID and logon change cost out of curiosity?

...Wouldn't take that long to be factored into a chat up line about being a member of the Balcony Club!

A good thing, as some of us are in our late 60s now...

Thus wasting money - you can't have it both ways fella.

There is much wrong with this idea, but the cost isn't the real issue IMHO.

Just updated three high level docs yesterday - doesn't really make any difference as no one uses rank now anyway

OFF TOPIC. I'm amazed at the structural integrity of the balcony given how many folk reckon to have been on it at the time OFF TOPIC
Not me mate - I was flying F1771’s…

I demobbed late 2020 after 22yrs and wonder if the scale or scope of differences are similar to someone who left in 1998 after a similar amount of time in?

The constant pandering to Stonewall in hijacking decades of tradition that seems to be a cacophony of constant bullshit addressing issues that aren't there for most. Can the same be said by those of the air force generation prior to mine?
Being a 'dinosaur' as I'm classed by the snowflakes of 32 years service, its all my fault, but i don't see a white, married with 2 kids day or flag. Changing names and new wanky uniform isn't going to fix this mess.

Oh come on Ady,

This isn't about you or your 32 years of service, it's all about making upset little wokies feel better about themselves these days.

What's really surprising however is that the new uniform isn't made out of bubble wrap and cotton wool.
