..........But girls don't play volleyball..........they only play netball!!!
Would be interesting to see her in the mess in her string vest though.:pDT_Xtremez_30:

Lol, you name the sport and i play it, hockey, football, rounders, badminton, tennis, basketball, squash the list goes on...

Anyway, i have always wanted to be in the civillian fire service like i said but i want more life experience before i go into that, better chanve of getting in too with armed forces as my background.

I wanted to be aircrew but i changed my mind on that, i would rather be fixing the aircraft to be honest thats why i changed to AMM. I would like to work on the engines, most important role to me but i dont know ha.

I still in a way would like to be RAF Firefighter but i just dont believe i will get any satisfaction from it

Thanks for all your replies back, even if some of them were nothing to do with it ha

Here's a few you may get to try:

3 man lift, shakletons, spoons, freckles......

I'm sure there's a few more "Liney" games out there too! :pDT_Xtremez_28:

From what I have seen BEG you really dont know what you want to do, the impression I get is that you are still quite young. IMO I would do a bit more research before you commit to anything, there is nothing worse than being stuck in a job you really dont want to do!!!

Thanks for trying to help out Lisa but i know exactly what i am getting myself into, my boyfriend is a Sergeant in the RAF and i speak to the techies all the time, know exactly what they do and know that is exactly what i want to do, the fire service is what i am going into when i am a little older and have some more life experience like i said, would like to have the military background for it. All i am concentrating on at the moment is AMM, it is my main priority.

Thanks anyway

BEG what I meant in my post was in the past you have seemed a little confused over what you actually wanted to do for example:

Quote: I applied to be a civillian Firefighter and i know everything about it and it sounds amazing and is the perfect job for me

I am applying as an Air Maintenance Mechanic but i was considering RAF Firefighter

Would love to be a Firefighter though, absolutely love it.

I have thought about being a techie in the RAF

The sort of techie i'd like to be is a mechanical one lol that works on engines etc

The actual job that i am applying for is Weapons Systems Operator

I originally wanted to be Pilot but i don't think that i would get it unfortunately

Regiment would be great but like said before NO GIRLS ALLOWED :O

I want to fly, that's all i have ever wanted to do
Engineer is my back up if i don't get it as im interested in engineering
i would like to fly in the back of chinooks- it would be great!
I know everything about wsop (i think)
fixed wing would also be good
I'm hoping to get wsop but if not then techie for me i believe: Quote

I have no doubt you think you know what life in the RAF is all about but until you are a serving member you never really know! Believe me this is not me having a go at you I would just hate to see you screw up you seem a nice lass!

RAF/Civvy Firefighter

RAF/Civvy Firefighter

Hiya, I was in the RAF fire service for 6 years and loved it, i am now in civvy Fire Service and love it even more!! If you want to join the RAF fire service do it, it is good but it does get boring. If you have a partner it is no good as they go away all the time, i think my mates are going away for 4 months at a time every 10 months. In comparison the RAF training was much better and more in depth than the civvy training, but that was in 1999 dunno what its like now?? But if you really want to be a fftr, apply to all the civvy brigades in the country and if you get in all you have to do is 2 years and then you can transfer to any brigade in the country. A new bloke has just joined my watch at work and he has only just turned 19, so don`t worry about the life experience thing too much just make sure you read up on and get as much info on the brigade you apply for. Good luck, you'll love it, best job in the world. All these people who say we (RAF and Civvy Fftrs) just sit around and play volleyball havent actually got a clue about the daily routine at a fire station so don`t listen to them. :pDT_Xtremez_25:

Hiya.
Could anybody tell me, if you can, what the actual daily routine of a RAF Firefighter is, I have heard a little about the job role (that its boring, you don't do anything, sit on ya' bum all day, never attend any fires etc), is all that true or is it actually an ok trade to go into?

Just wondering

Jesus! The training in Essex must be cr@p!
I found it the other way round. In the RAF I was trained by people who'd been to very few or no fires at all, civvy side the trainers were old hands who'd been there and done it.

RAF fire training went right into depth about stuff like bld construction, hydraulics and such like, the civvy brigade covers it, but not as in depth, the practical side of the training in the civilian brigade was a lot better i give you that but not the theoretical side of it. when did you do your raf training?

Don't listen to all those closet wannabees. The RAF Fire Service are the unsung hero's of the Air Force. Sure everybody shouts there mouth off about us not doing anything but wash trucks and play volleyball, but the Fire Service are a highly professional organisation and trade.
Of course like any trade in the mob it can be a bit mundane at times, yes there is a bit of training to be done daily, yes kit is checked and maintained, and fire extinguishers are serviced and issued, this all adds up to the bigger fire safety picture. All in all not even the civillian fire service deal with towering infernos everyday. We are specialists in Aircraft Crash Fire and Rescue and thankfully aircraft don't fall out of the sky all the time, but when it does happen these people who slate us are glad to see us. Civillian or Service being a fire fighter is the way forward.

Wannabe?
Yeh, my thoughts exactly when I was raf fire "I wannabe out of this job!"
We may not deal with towering infernos everyday, but we do deal with them regularly. I dealt with more fires and incident in my first month in the civvy brigade than I did in 6 years in the RAF.
