  • PAYD Thread,

No worries mate, i thought most of the deleted comments were mostly on topic myself, don't know why they got moderated.

    Cheers

I've done a few idle calculations which may interest him. Ha-ha. The joys of compound interest. I assumed he is either Sgt or Chief and took pay scales and pensions off the official RAF website. If he can bear the strain of not touching a large lump and investing his RAF pension, retiring comfortably at 55 is a real prospect. At which point he could support nurses and other public service employees, rather than slagging them off.

    Hi Mark

Well he started it!!! We've done nothing except post the facts as they stand. He seems reluctant to actually state categorically what rank he holds, pay scale, length of service, and what pension he expects. I've had a shuftie at RAF pay scales, and if what he alludes to is true, I reckon he is either L7 Sgt £36 929 with pension @ 22 years £10 509 or L1 Chief Tech £37 953 with pension @ 22 years £11 971. I don't expect him to howl "It's not fair" when he slides that wedge into his wallet.

I have to admit though, the topic of pensions was furthest from my mind when I took up my second career. I 'bought back' years to cover the time when I was doing my training, and that was it. My school was in a bit of a fix with a prolonged demographic downturn, resulting in fewer 'bums on seats' and correspondingly less money coming in. I had turned 55 last year and it seemed like a good time to jump ship.

    Regards

    Francis
