Ricky,

Having seen two people dear to me go through the suggering caused by this pernicious disease, I am in awe of your ability to narrate with clarity the effect it is having on you. In a half a dozen or so lines of text you completely put any problems I may be experiencing fully into perspective, thank you.
May you have the best christmas you and your family can together.

Much Respect

I can't say I know, I can't say I met you but I have never seen such strength of character, honesty, self respect and outright bravery in any one I met in my time in the mob. I salute you and wish you, your family and friends the best of times and the best of luck. Here'
s hoping this is the best, most special xmas anyone could wish for.

Specialised,

I don't really know what to say at a time like this, other than to echo others words that you are a complete inspiration to many going through difficulty at this time of year.

I hope you and the family have a great Christmas and can put this vile condition out of your mind for the day... or at least for five minutes when you sit down with your loving family and a nice glass of something warming (if alcohol is not allowed with your meds, treat yourself to the mother of all Hot Chocolates courtesy of that naked chef bloke) Linky

Here's wishing you and your family all the best for the future... god knows it'll be tough.

My wife succumbed to a mestases of breast cancer in her liver nearly five years ago, so this thread brings back many memories of that time. Specialized, I truly wish you and your family a wonderful Christmas, and if there is a God out there, a fantastic New Year (and many more to come). I'm thinking of you mate, hope all goes well

God Bless you mate, still hoping and praying for you to beat this, against all the odds. My MiL is undergoing chemo at the moment for breast cancer, and having been to one of her sessions I was heartened and humbled by the bravery of those around her, and the dedication of the staff. Have an incredible Christmas and take joy in your family. F*ck you, cancer ::p:

Ricky,

I don't know you, but I've read this thread from start to here and just wanted to say from one stranger to another. Bloody good effort mate, I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas, starting about now, and that this godawful disease shrivels up and fcuks off because it just can't take the pace!

Hugs x :pDT_Xtremez_30:

I have read this thread and am amazed at your courage and fortitude. Your sheer will to keep on going with your head up is nothing short of inspirational and I salute you.

Here are some famous words from Rudyard Kipling.

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

Not only a newbie AND a civvy (lowest of the low) but I'm an Oncology nurse working at THAT specialist hospital very close to the Northwood base .
Mount Vermin?

Ricky, I hope you and you're family have the best Christmas ever. I lost a brother to kidney cancer when he was just 35 so I have some empathy with what you and your family are going through.
I doubt I'd ever be able to cope with an illness like that with the courage and tenacity you've shown. You humble me.

All the best my friend.

Almost time to go.

Almost time to go.

After yesterdays oncologist appt, myself & Claire have decided it's not worth carrying on with chemo. It's not working so it's better not to put myself through it. No big dramas, came to terms with the news quite easily actually.
A lot of fluid has gathered in my legs as my liver can process less stuff which they control by mild pressure bandaging, this pushes the fluids back up to my liver. I've not really got pain but I am more distended & pressurised feeling. My right lung has a bit of fluid on it but this is being managed.
My mother in law Carol got me a loan of a wheelchair from the Red Cross so I can be shoved around town by Claire for a bit of a change of scene, however I have no muscle mass that would let me do this alone. I now have a massive posse of Community nurses who pop in and change my leg dressings everyday and a Raf GP who is only 20 mins away to give me any ultra strong morphine type injections (huge box of doses, needles etc) day, night or weekends as I need them, she is brilliant.
This will be my last entry and someone will update something or check out the Odiham RIP's when the time happens.
I would like to thank you all for your kindness and compassion shown in this thread over the last 9 months, our service truly needs people like you.
On the plus side, I won’t have to sit through the thousands of hours of Olympics programmes you poor people will.

You are one incredible individual and an inspiration to all. I lost my Mum to a (now, reasonable chance of curing) cancer when she was only 48 and this hideous, uncompromising disease that has no selective targets is indeed a modern curse. Your courage is peerless and I hope that your condition gives as little pain as possible. There's not one on here who wouldn't give to produce that magic wand and make it all go away. Bless you.

Was kind of hoping you would stick around for a while longer. I am gutted to hear that time is passing. You are a good man, and your family should be proud of you.

God speed Sir, in our thoughts.
