you now get a bar to your long gong after 10 years instead of 15 so if you got it on the old system you will get another bar 5 years later i.e. 15 years LSGC, 25 years BAR 35 years BAR
It's not a bar, it's a clasp. Bars are awarded to gallantry awards, clasps to campaign and long service awards.

Has anyone been issued with their Bar to the long gong under the new rules yet?

Just some info for anybody in the same boat as me -

According to the new rules, I should have received my clasp 18 months ago but given that my LS&GCM took a year to get to me, I didn't think this was unusual. When I phoned P1 I was told that JPA should pick this up automatically but as mine wasn't due until 2020 under the old rules, I need to apply using Form JPAS002.

As officers are now eligible for the medal has it changed design?

And if so, does the clasp go on the old medal or do you get a new design medal?

its the same medal and same bar, no change in design. I mounted one yesterday for a Sqn Ldr, got his medal and bar at the same time!

I phoned Half day house and they said they were getting done automatically so i dont need to apply, I'm filling in the form now.....

Just a quick update on my clasp - I "applied" for my clasp on 17 Feb and it's just shown up on JPA as awarded on 20 Mar 17. When I get it in my sticky mitts is another matter of course.

Just a quick update - I received my LSGCM clasp in the post today and I have a question -

I'm assuming that the little rosette thingy goes on the No.1 Jacket ribbon bar but how is it sewn on? Do I sew knots through each hole or does the thread go through the holes and over the rosette on a loop. I suspect the former but just want to check.

Did my 12 in, not a sniff of a medal; after 2 years as a civvy got one for being in a war… (1st. Gulf War)
Noticed it can be quite trade specific. Notably Regt, Suppliers, Caterers and MT Drivers can have a gammut of them. Me I got 3. 1 for 2nd Gulf War, 1 for being good and 1 for surviving with the Queen around. WWIII kicked off I was still Penguin 5h4gging bound due to 'Q's.

Reminds me of a story from the Security Guard working at a remote island establishment. His Grandfather never talked about the war. He was Infantry during WWII... Spent it all guarding Penguin 5h4gging land. Still...someone had to do it!!!

An old acquantance of mine (SNCO PTI) had 2 b****y rows of medals. I think he had been involved with practically every conflict in the past 25 years. Mind you, it was always good to take this p**s out of him (in a joking manner ofcourse) at formal functions in the Mess.

How many medals put you onto a 2nd row?! I've seen army bods with 13 across 1 row!

Tracking down?? How long did that take and how? Sounds like a story in itself?

I've been periodically checking the net to see if they ever surfaced as no one has ever known what happened to them after he died in 1963. They turned up on a medal sale site run by a collector who had purchased them as part of someone’s estate..how that fellow ended up with them we’ll never know.
if you are searching long lost medals try ‘Online medals’ run by a fellow Ian Laidler……or look on
The Saleroom website for upcoming auctions..
Quite a few years ago I traced an uncles medals, he was on the Ajax at the battle of the River Plate and had about 8 medals. They were in a proper specialised auction. Unfortunately I was tied up in a meeting at the time they were due up so got the Mrs to bid for me…!! Unfortunately she bid on the wrong item and won some blokes life saving medal!!!!!! Luckily I explained the situation to the auction room. They were very understanding and put the medals in their stock so I wasn’t held liable…
