What do you want the politicians to offer you?

Ok so there’s a leadership competition on at the moment but it won’t be long before the Pre-Election give away start, probably in next years budget or this year’s autumn statement.

So, without getting personal on individual politicians, do you want to see, here’s my staters for 10.

VAT to 15%, Low and Mid paid families pay far too much of this tax
Green Levies moved to general taxation, huge impact on the low paid under the current model.
Tax brackets to rise in line with inflation, ideally the higher ones accelerated to what they should be before they were allowed to stagnate (I don’t mind paying more tax but the next step for me is getting close and it’s a scary one)
Reform of the NHS, what it delivers, how it is organised, how it is delivered, how non health treatments could be Co funded.
Something with the police so that crime and anti social behaviour is calmed a little.
Better help to get the under employed and out of work into productive activity.
Some effort to reduce over spending

Well, if we're going with a blank cheque:
1 Tell the truth
2 Net carbon zero in five years
3 Decommission nuclear weapons
4 Abolish the monarchy
5 Introduce an elected upper chamber
6 Rejoin the EU referendum in five years
7 Nationalise the railways

The priority of my glass of wine precludes me from any deeper thought

75% tax on all salaries and bonuses over £250,000
A far lighter touch from central government
June 23 to be an annual national holiday to celebrate the Brexit vote of 2016
The SNP call to change the shape of Britain should include all British voters
Make owning a cat illegal
Move to carbon zero using agreed, practically acheivable, dates no delays and no pie in the sky expectations
Eliminate 4x4's except for agricultural and off road use
Mandatory 100 hours community service for those convicted of being Karen's, Remoaners or Gammons.
Enforce the highway code/ law on cyclists

Giving the Scots a referendum under the legally binding condition that the question is not asked again for at least 40 years. On the same day of the referendum, the rest of the UK to also be asked if Scotland should become independent, so they get a true feeling about how we down south feel about them.

Giving the Irish a referendum on unification - both North & South. Worth it to see the south reject having the North because they cant afford them.

50% tax levvied on all BTL properties, with no deductible expenses permitted. Stop these greedy "portfolio" owners hoovering up all affordable housing.

50 year Covenant on affordable housing preventing them being sold to anyone who does not fit the criteria when the house was built (ie local and low income). Make the properties leasehold, where the ground rent is increased tenfold if this covenant is broken, and also make the properties subject to CGT, so the sellers and buyers get stung if they break this covenant.

Power given to councils for compulsory purchase orders for all 2nd homes that are not occupied for 60% of the year by the owner. Similarly, give the Councils the power to charge 5 x Council Tax to compensate for the killing off of communities by absentee owners.

Every town to acquire a stock of camp beds and provide a homeless refuge overnight, utilising the gymnasiums of high schools on a rotational basis. Funded from the taxation of BTL landlords & 2nd home owners.

People of pension age who continue to work to pay full tax & NI.

Refundable £25 charge for GP and hospital outpatient appointments if the patient shows up.

All new houses to be fitted with solar panels.

Fine people through their council tax who let their hedges overgrow across pavements, blocking pushchair/wheelchair users and restricting visibility for drivers turning onto roads.

Everyone is expected to do some form of work for their Welfare Cheque, be it weekend litter picking or helping out at a foodbank once a week for a couple of hours. The housebound can do something like envelope stuffing.

Cut general VAT to 15%. Remove VAT on petrol and introduce a fixed fuel duty levy, which will then show exactly how greedy (or not) the petrol retailers actually are.

Starting tax/NI threshold should be at 37 hrs x adult minimum wage (£18,278). The clue is "minimum" - no Govt should then be deducting from a figure they have deemed to be the absolute minimum. 20% tax until £40K earnings, then 5% increase per £5K earnings up to 50% at £80K and above NI is charged at 12% on all earnings above minimum wage.

Some left wing sacred cows there that got both Michael Foot and Jezza elected... :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

How would you achieve the Net Carbon target?

If you abolish the monarchy, who do you see as the head of state - President Johnson? What role do you see any new head of state fulfilling?

Most of us would agree that a sizeable chunk of the current 600 and some MPs are pretty useless for one reason or another - you want to elect another 600 or so wasters?

What purpose is served by renationalising the railways?

So what do i want from a new government?

Brexit completed.

Rail privatisation 'tidied up'; most companies are now investing but the drain of income to overseas investors needs to be reduced. More investment in public transport generally; not just in London.

Tony Blair's botched reform of the House of Lords needs to be resolved - appointments to the peerage should be either as working peers or as 'titles only'. All appointees to the HoL as working peers should be able to contribute to the process of reviewing, revising & refining laws passed in the commons and should be able to do so by virtue of having been previously involved at senior levels in making, interpreting, working within and enforcing laws. So, senior judges, successful business men, TU leaders and the like rather than failed politicians given seats in order to make PMs friends cabinet members (Mandelson et al) or as favours for backhanders to politicians. Members of the HoL should only be able to claim allowances for those days when they have actually taken part in HoL business.

I go with a lot of MWD's ideas wrt housing & 2nd homes - although many BTL landlords are probably not that bad but get tarnished by the worst.

The NHS desperately needs reforming - not around the edges but at its core - defining what it is there for and what its priorities should be; boob jobs for aspiring 'glamour models' are not what it is there for. Health care and social care for the elderly and disabled need to be better joined up. Missing appointments and mis-using ambulances & A&E need to be subject to sanctions. GP services should be accessible for longer hours and dental services should be treated the same as other medical services - checkups and routine treatments for free but with options for private care/treatments.

All public buildings to have solar panels along with all new private housing,

Utility companies to be forced to invest in their infrastructure for the future rather than taking profits for investors now.

You'll be happy to know that the NHS already doesn't offer boob jobs.

Hmm, that's not exactly what the page says.... There's a caveat about areas where you live.

What that probably means is, no boob jobs for potential reality tv stars, and if you have 'dog eared breasts' (technical term), then you might get referred in your area, or you might get sent to the other end of the country. The GP refers to plastics, and if the plastic consultant gets a whiff of Kardashians, then it's case closed, get out.

Reduce the number of MPs by 50% and make them all centrally based with elections based on a vote for a party and MPs divvied up accordingly. (Let the local councils sort out local issues).

Remove the option for MPs to claim expenses but double their wages.

Determine a way to charge electric vehicles the road tax.

Nationalise Utilities and Railoperators.

Nationalise the confiscated property of the Russian oligarchs.

Expedite the transfer of illegal immigrants to Rwanda.

...and then limit MPs pay rises to a maximum of 4% pa.
I’d rather have fewer better paid politicians, although with the mandate that they have to have had a proper job (outside of politics and labour movement), either bus driver or CEO and all points inbetween.
