According to the SAGE meeting notes herd immunity wasn’t a strategy it was a positive by product of keeping levels down to one the NHS could cope with, the lock down was just a part of that strategy as predictions were coming in that levels were rising too fast. At the time cases a nation could cope with were concentrated in the Greater London area.
I think testing for the well is a bit of a red herring, although I accept that a quick and accurate test for essential workers to enable them to return to work if they, or someone in their household have just got a normal cough or fever.
The only sensible strategy would be an opening up of society that enables the NHS to cope with those who become sick enough to require medical attention, those at high risk of becoming dead need to stay away from others until a vaccine or herd immunity kicks in.
