Just for fun..

How long will the Typhoon display team be showing off in the skies over the southern med?

On a much broader note, just why is the coalition sending in a massive show of (air-to-air) force when the threat has effectively been neutralised by destroying the airfields/air defence?

And just how do police a no-fly zone without air to air capability's ? it's what the a/c was designed for and its what it is doing, i don't see the problem.
Unless you want to give the Army more ammo about how we have lot's of unused asset's.

Tiffys still have a 27mm Cannon that can kill things on the ground, though I think they are only cleared for 1000 lbs Paveway II and Dumb bombs as regards air to ground big stuff at the minute which is a bit overkill as regards going for tanks.... Tornado GR4 on the other hand are now flying with 540 lbs Paveway IV and Brimstone which will kill things on the ground easy. Would be an idea though to put a couple of Concrete Filled Paveway II's on the Tiffys though and go for the tanks in the cities where you don't want big explosions. however some Libyian Helicopter or plane may make themselves a target.

I sent a mail to my mates, with the link to the BBC site, saying that the government had run out of money and had resorted to using concrete. The spanners believed me!

..because I watch sky news ;)

Certainly not having a go at the typhoon force, I just find it strange that in a time of cutbacks the uk government can see fit to deploy an asset that by the time it's there is already to late..if you go by what the US spokesman is saying.

Well, If you watch the this Linky acording to our lords and masters, 8 pilots are fully trained in the Air to Mud mission on Typhoon at the minute, so it would make sence to at least put a couple of LGB's and a designator pod on a couple of aircraft, instead of a full AD fit so they can show the multi role mission can be done by the aircraft and at least shut Lewis Page up.

These aircraft will have flown the mission tasked by the coalition Air Component Commander through the Air Tasking Order (ATO). It doesn't matter if we have a declared (limited) AG capability on the aircraft, have the weapons in place, and want to show off the capability, these aircraft fly as part of a wider coalition campaign - if the coalition Air Component HQ wants them to fly AD and let other assets do AG then that is what they will be tasked to do.

(Just an observation on how a coalition air campaign should work - I have no knowledge of current op tasking)

This is exactly the same way that the air component works in HERRICK. The Air Component commander will select the best asset for the task. Which is why you can get a USAF ac support ISAF ground formations of British Army units in RC(SW) while RAF ac support ISAF ground formations of US Army units in RC(C).
