  • Funnily enough I had a peek at my fitters course notes Dec 83-March 84. Including Bombs n Comps. Unfortunately the mad cow saw it as her duty to throw out all my other trade notes including Mechs course, Phantom and F3. Fuk me was I angry. There was something mentally satisfying at following through the Phantom and Suu gun electrics diagrams
We got taught 951s as well; but barely skimmed over the rest (including pistols) just for historical interest probably! I never worked in a dump; my info came from memory/sneaky peek at my trade training notes!
So more than likely to be a guided flying brick. More of a missile guns and ejection seats guy me. 947 and 951 fuzes taught back in the day, but lack of a spindle through the plate looked doubtful for a live one
Best guess? Its a 960 inert training fuse or a Drill/A fuse (former live fuse converted for training). If you look at the pic it only shows the body (the head has become detached). The information I have says this should have the fuse windows painted oxford blue and the fuse head should have a green disk; but as we don't have pics it's impossible to say for certain. I can't find any mention of a 'practice' stamping but my information isn't bang up to date. You can clearly see the film wire which connects the fuse body to the fuse head. The 'plate' covers the hole for the T bar extension which receives mechanical input from the arming vane.
