A mourning parade was held at BAS as the coffins were loaded onto the herc. The last post, what an emotive piece of music.

Later, they were unloaded and reloaded onto a C17, can anyone say why?

The sad return.

The sad return.

Just watching now on sky news as the bodies are returned, I didn't know any of those aboard the Lynx, , just feel deeply saddened every time I watch this ceremony. It really strikes home that it could be any of us, and leaves a very empty feeling. At this time I would express my condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of the deceased, thoughts are with scouse. For once the media are doing the right thing and respecting the wishes of the family and affording this occasion the dignity it deserves.

RIP

I served with JC on 28 sqn when he was still a Sqn Ldr. He was a thoroughly decent guy who was very down to earth, not to mention very good at his job. My thoughts are with the families of those who lost their lives, and with my former colleagues on 28 (AC) Sqn who once again find themselves burying their dead. (we lost And Harris then Rachel and Richie Turk two weeks later in 03 to road accidents).

This was read at And's funeral, seems appropriate now.

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed
he was walking along the beach with the LORD.

Across the sky flashed scenes from his life.
For each scene he noticed two sets of
footprints in the sand: one belonging
to him, and the other to the LORD.

When the last scene of his life flashed before him,
he looked back at the footprints in the sand.

He noticed that many times along the path of
his life there was only one set of footprints.

He also noticed that it happened at the very
lowest and saddest times in his life.

This really bothered him and he
questioned the LORD about it:

"LORD, you said that once I decided to follow
you, you'd walk with me all the way.
But I have noticed that during the most
troublesome times in my life,
there is only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why when
I needed you most you would leave me."

The LORD replied:

"My son, my precious child,
I love you and I would never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffering,
when you see only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you."
