Two German cities have legislated to ban older diesels from their streets with the strong possibility of the German government following the lead and making the ban country wide.

Although it won't affect modern diesels is this the start of the end for diesel motors? Will the UK follow suit as it tries to meet international air quality requirements? Nissan Leaf's all round

If Siddiq Khan gets his way then all desiels from 2022 that don't meet Euro6 will pay a toll within the M25.

Whilst Nasty NOx (is that right) will be reduced Climate Change CO2 will start to rise, petrol will just be a temporary solution until Electric takes over for most car buyers in the next decade or so.

Not only will it take that long to sort out range, charging and economies of scale, it’ll also be a while until the National Grid will catch up.

This is a bit like the war on plastic, yep it’s bad for the environment in itself, but it’s good for the environment in other ways, reducing produce waste, reducing transport costs and probably a few other good things too.

The bans, should they ever come into force, will only affect certain named streets. There may also be exceptions for traders vehicles. Furthermore there is the problem of enforcing a ban, it is not always easy to spot a diesel. On top of that the parking attendants have jurisdiction over parked cars only and the police are too busy getting on with their own work.

Unless you have criminal intent the police or traffic wardens will not need to do anything more than they do now. The registration number will reveal all. Therefore the regular charging zone and other ANPR cameras will trap everyone's details. If there is a discrepancy - e.g. allowed traders, cherished or personal registrations etc it will be up to the registered keeper to ensure that the correct details are recorded...

The GCP are just not interested, they simply do not have the time or staff to chase potential offenders. The traffic wardens are not allowed to deal with moving traffic. Furthermore German data protection goes way OTT, random checks would most certainly be illegal.

In the local rag today (Mönchengladbach) the mayor stated that a diesel ban is not under consideration as they will not solve the problem. Apart from which Mg doesn't exceed the limits anyway.
I can relax, for the time being!:pDT_Xtremez_31:
