Its all to do with compo culture. The MOD don't want to be held liable for anything at a later date and thus prefer to keep someone downgraded rather than expose themselves to future civil action.

The problem seems to be there appears to be no incentive for the medical services to medically upgrade personnel by giving them access to the best treatment as they did a decade or so ago.

About 15 years ago I had a minor problem that was sorted the same day after being referred to a Forces hospital.

Presently I am suffering an ailment that was caused by an injury 3 years ago and have remained downgraded for most of that time with no clear diagnosis. It is only recently that I have been able to persuade a sympathetic doctor to refer me to a specialist.

Meanwhile, for the last 2 years I have been on PWR and every 6 months they give me new DWR and course dates when it's obvious I am unlikely to be upgraded and therefore several people have had their dates pulled forward as a result.

I am now on the NHS waiting list for an MRI scan so who knows if I'll get any proper treatment before they decide to medically discharge me.

It's not just OOAs either, I've had scroats wriggling out of trips to the States and even a few years ago not wanting to go to Malaysia FFS. Why don't they simply get a job at Tescos etc. Oxygen rustlers!:pDT_Xtremez_09:

fair play to you chip and all others like us. Our trade turnaround for the lads is 11 months as the mighty chip has said and for girls 9 months. what is that all about?!

i met a guy the other week who went to the med centre with a minor problem and all he wanted was some anti-biotics. The doc said and i quote "so how long do you want off then?" the guy had a huge domestic with the doc until 20 minutes later he prescribed the tablets and so off the guy went happy as larry, whoever larry is!!!!!

Once you are downgraded it is difficult to get upgraded due to the fact the medical treatment is slow these days. I suffered 2 discs which slipped and no matter how hard I try its ni on impossible to get any sense out of the specialists. Had an mri scan then 3 months to get results. see specialist need another mri due to time lapsed and symptoms changed. Had the 2nd MRI and next appointment to get results is 4 months later.... so is there any wonder why so many people are downgraded..... Talk about wanting a efficient AIRFORCE, we need to sort out the medical service first

Cheers mum of 4. Obviously is down to the fact that in the RAF you are just left to get on with it. Got civvie friends who had same problems but they got sorted quick. Oh well 2 years downgrade guess i be out soon still struggling until a real doctor says enough is enough and gets me fixed. Thanks make people feel more depressed about life in th RAF and slow medical treatment.

One of the principal reasons behind downgrading is to notify individuals who dish out PWRs and DWRs to keep off your case. I was in a similar situation as yourself a couple of years ago and was constantly being nominated despite being downgraded. Got on my t1ts it did!

I've got a biff chit (temporary downgrading only) partly due to a severely twisted sock but mainly so S2 can go out to sandy places more often.

Know how your feeling fella, spent 18 months from start to finish trying to get my knee fixed. Annoying that the first 6 months was spent just trying to get a MRI scan then a further 1 month waiting for the results. Eventually managed to get placed on a fast track system after some digging by the med centre. Whacked as a priority, treated within a couple of months at a private hospital (guy that operated was the same fella that sorted out Paul Gasgoine after he screwed his knee in the FA Cup Final) and straight onto re-hab and upgrade.

Get back and pressure your med centre into pulling their finger out and investigate the possiblity of get you fast tracked. If you need info send me a PM.
