Kind of allied to the near miss thread, but also a seperate and on-going issue.
A Welsh MP wants low flying around Wales banned the same as they've done in Germany because it's causing deafness to locals, what a load of rubbish, jet noise, the sound of freedom!

If it's been going on for 60 odd years, why is she still there ?
Someone should really show her why our pilots have to practice low flying.

Bloody NIMBY brigade again !

"as they've done in Germany"

Someone must have forgotten to inform them at Lagerlechfeld AB then, as they do fly low over the local villages (The village I live in included) not so fast, but low.

Personally, I think it is fantastic & my Son (42 Months old) loves to see them zipping about.

One or Two of the exchange US/UK Pilots/Navs are known to frequent the Irish bars in Augsburg.

I'd much rather we'd be inflicting this on the Welsh then our own; we could always do more in Scotland too

They must have forgotten also to inform those in the north as well. It's not unusual to see loads of Tonkas and the odd Phoon flying low and fast when travelling between Schleswig Holstein and Berlin.

Perhaps the RAF should consider doing their low flying training abroad, say in Canada perhaps? Goose Bay anyone??? Why not re-invent another wheel.......

I we hadn't been doing it for the last 60 years, it would be someone else's airforce doing it now, and you wouldn't dare complain.

*********************************

Unless it was a rhetorical question, then possibly not.

Flight Operations Officer, ***** *********** is based at RAF Goose Bay in Labrador (Canada). What’s it like there Chris? 'It can be fairly quiet in winter, when there can be 14 feet of snow outside and the temperature drops to an average of minus 17C.' But is there enough to do off duty even if it’s snowing? 'There’s a friendly local community, including Inuit (Eskimo) and Innu (native Canadians), and our sports facilities are second to none.'

It just smacks of another pacifist PC rant to me. I'm surprised they haven't complained about foreign nations invading their airspace yet.

Strange though that PC want to keep Valley open and get Saints ramped up again.....

Hang on, aren't they military? mmm sort of goes against this pacifist cr@p they push out. More than happy to reap the benefits though aren't you?

And another thing....

How long have these people complaining been living there?

Who was there first, them or the low flying aircraft? If you buy a house in an area that is known to be used for LFT, then I'm sorry, but you can't complain. Live with it - or move. simple.

I would have thought the locals would be happy!
If the sheep all end up deaf the locals wont have to be so quiet when they creep up on them!

This plank is the worst jumper on of band wagons going. Have a look at some of the EDM he has signed recently:

Valley is kept open at the pleading of these clowns because in all probability Anglesey would slip into the dark ages within a week of it closing. What does Valley do? Teach low flying.

Go sit at the end of the runway at Valley and see how many spotters and tourists rock up, visit the Mach Loop and see how many spotters are there for a weeks holiday. there was an outcry when Llanbedr shut because the tourists loved sitting on Shell Island seeing the Jindys wobble into land.

So far by cancelling low flying, Anglesey loses a massive employer and all the benfits they bring and tourism takes a dive. Go Plaid!

So let ius see how much jumping up and down he does when the decision is taken to can all military flying training in the UK and send the Hawk T2s out to Moose Jaw, Canada. It would save Millions and be far better training for the drivers airframe.

How about canning the airfield at St Athan which if I recall is where a Hawk Det goes for live firing at Aberporth and a bit of low level thrown in? More cash saved. No airfield - build houses but how could we train future techies on airfield ops ? Simple, leave it at Cosford withdraw all RAF and shut one whole side of Saints completely leaving the other side for the Army to do stuff in.

Nice joined up thinking Mr, now get back in your box and have a wee sleep!

If you live in a regular practice area - then you can imagine why certain towns and villages get upset - especially when it is the same places,

however, they can perhaps be lucky that they don't live near a base, because they'd be even more upset -

We need air defence, and we need our pilots to train, but is it not possible that we use some where like goose bay, where it upsets no one?

We need to practice in our own country though, and I don't see what harm it would do to have a better relationship with local press, advertising clearly when there will be low flying in the area. I know this has been done before, however, it doesn't get published much where I live. This would go some way to appeasing complainers.

spot on jimps, close anything vaguely military in wales, sure other areas of the country would appreciate the extra jobs and revenue.
