Afghan insurgents have captured two US soldiers and are holding them in southern Logar province, a Taliban official has claimed.

A Nato statement has confirmed two US troops are missing in eastern Afghanistan after leaving their compound in Kabul on Friday and failing to return.

The statement did not identify the pair by nationality but US officials have said they are American.

An Afghan official has said one may have been killed and the other taken hostage by the Taliban.

Poor sods one can but hope for a safe return but I fear the very worst. Awfully sad. Stand by for hostage pics, orange jump suits and perhaps much much worse. I would prefer not to think about what these guys may be having to endure.

I hope, they do get out of this safely. I do believe though, that if the two soldiers are killed under capture, then America will unleash a massive revenge upon the Taliban.

I have the feeling that this will become a fulcrum moment.

I've missed the news recently and was wondering if anything else has been reported about this.

Last time I heard anything, the spams knew where he was. It seems that everything in the news has gone quiet.

Not heard a thing mate. Might be a tactic by the Yank military or government. Just hope the poor guy gets out OK. I don't understand how 2 guys were there out in *****ville on their own!! The 2 times I was there we always went in convoy and supported each other. My last slug was for me..................
