We have people whose shifts are either Mon-Thur or Tue-Fri. If they are on the Tue-Fri shift when it is a BH, they do not get the day taken off them.

I am on nights mate, question was raised last night and several suggestions were made as to where this policy was located, I could not find it in any of them.

It is being pushed up, the question should already have been asked of the Sqn Engineering management, next time I am on days at the same time as the Sqn Scribblies is next Wednesday.

Any news from the your Sqn?

Sorry, been off doing stuff and this was back burnered.

Upshot is, they confirmed that we were not entitled to the 8 for Bank Holidays, When I asked for it in writing, with reference to the JSP and asked for the authority under which we were to lose it, it went quiet for a bit and then came back down a couple of weeks later (after I chased it up) that we are in fact entitled to our 8 and it was a hangover from the old management, which I presume means that because under the old system we never got Bank Holidays, somebody just presumed that was still the case and they carried it on without checking the books.

Thanks for the assistance all, it will be nice to be able to have a couple of extra days this year:)

If they have been removed contrary to policy then it should be feasible.

Techinically it's a redress in that an individual could have been wronged by having the days deducted erroneously; the redress sort would be to have the days reinstated.

It is usually better to seek a more informal resolution first.

If an individual feels strongly about it they can keep the redress/service complaint option in their back pocket - but, they should remember that the 3-month (IIRC) time limit on submitting such starts from the moment an individual learns that they have been wronged.

Just to stop you worrying - no need for you sqn to rush out and buy KG and I beers for the advice. I'm in a no drinking place and I am sure that KG's body is a temple as he prepares for his latest charitable bike ride. :pDT_Xtremez_14:

KG is going to kill me for that.

Can I suggest a dirty protest?

Can you retrospectively claim those lost days back.

I probably could, and so could others who kept the 15 plus the 8 and lost the 8 by default, but realistically it is not going to happen. Basically what we were told and what happened were 2 different things. At no point did they actually take the 8 days off us, they just told us they were going to, so at the end of the leave year those of us with more than 15 left, lost the excess.

I am pleased enough with the resolution we have, I get an extra 8 days leave this year which I was not expecting at the start of this thread.

Once again though, thanks to all for the help and the advice, very much appreciated, not just by me but by a lot of the other members of the Sqn.

Weebl any news from your Scribblies? I've spoken to a Chf Clk, 2 Sqn Scribblies at different Units and all are just as baffled as me. This got to be sorted so I can get back to Techie bating before anyone thinks I am being helpful.

Well the chief clerk at brize isn't baffled. SRO dated 30 june 2010 order 26 states all shift workers at brize loose 8 days PH.

Black and White.

Which date is later than all of the other posts in this thread before yours.

None of us have time machines, so at the time of this thread, that order was not written.

It's also in the Sqns policies on the SWA for all to see. Someone did a clever bit of maths and worked out that we actually work a few less hours on shift than the day workers and that to make up for it we should lose the Public Holidays. The calculation doesn't take into account any OOA/training courses or other diversions though that turn you into a day worker for those periods.

I've asked about this too and all I get as an answer is it's Station Policy.

Unfortunately it was. It's a repeat order. I'm not defending the policy, I think it's wrong.

Grateful for sight of the wording (not in work, pre-det leave)- whilst I am aware these decisons can be made and managed locally I'd love to know how it is reasonably, fairly and transparently administered.

So to take this to an extreme, if it is okay to bring in a station policy to reduce leave for certain workers, where do their powers end? Could they reduce it down to the legal minimum of 20 days and say that's your lot? If as it seems from the contents of this thread there is nothing to say they are strictly allowed to do this, why is it happening?

Could it be challenged legally? Or would they just **** can the shifts out of spite?

The whole thing stinks of people (high enough up the chain) who work a 5 day week seething at the shift workers 'loads of time off' and doing something seemingly unnecessary to address it.

At work, between 5 and 7 hours, depending if it's earlies or lates. Actually doing work, probably 3 or 4 hours a week at most, less this week. I've also just done 24 days guard, of which I was on shift for 13 of them with stand down in between. Before BAE were removed I was on a 4 day week, I still got 38 days leave during all of this. Why?

In our world it is 20 + 8 days. Put that into your work pattern and you will see that all is well in your world although it it is somewhat plastic. In civvy street, no working means either holiday or no pay!!!!!!!!!
