Tory boy is unlikely to connect with the underclass, nor generate enough jobs to provide an alternative to State handouts. With an ageing population and advances in medicine, individauls will need to provide their own care and pensions in future. Assets tied into property will be examined and more than likely to feature regarding universal entitlement. As a consequnce huge budgets dedicated to anything other than keeping the economy afloat will be under constant threat. Unless the Service Chiefs move together the Defence budget will be squeezed and the UK will be marginalised regarding its status as a global power.

Interesting times lie ahead for everyone.

Aww, come on now. Who actually believes that? What could we do, on our own and not as part of either an Anglo-American or European/NATO alliance.

The days of Global Power status ended at Suez.

Oh yes, and we are skint. That cannot be blamed on Tory boy or his mates.

We should simply get rid of them. No problem then.

Just say no

Just say no

Neither party will do the Forces any favours so don't vote for either party on this issue.

Simple.

This election is not about who you fancy for your own needs, but who you distrust least for when they chop your industry up.

This is a pure guessing game as no-one can avoid cuts - who cuts what, how deep, and where, is a matter for POST election discussion.

"They" will all be wrong - but who is likely to be least wrong?

Never before in an election have I ever seen such a sorry bunch of cnuts for which to vote for. It really will be the best of a poor bunch, Round here it's the option of Liabour or Lib-Dem, 420 votes in it last time in favour of the Lib-Dems.

Just remember you are not voting for Dave, Gobdon or Nicky, you vote for your local rep.

Then whoever gets in........the lies fall by the wayside and the real sh1t begins

Don't play the blame game.

Don't play the blame game.

I've been in now for 18+ years and yes things have changed drastically since the day I left Swinderby. I don't think blame can be apportioned to any particular party as lets face it political decisions are normally made with no other motive than what will get them voted in again.

Since the end of the cold war the forces were always going to be chopped to pieces as everyone thought we were destined for calmer waters, even though history has proven this is never the case.

I should imagine a lot of the problems that we face now are down to the forces continual "can do" attitude which makes us what we are.
This attitude reached breaking point when we were deployed to Iraq (again) and Stan, fortunately some big cheeses complaining along with massive public opinion has forced us to get some decent kit which from what I've seen so far has warranted praise from those who use it.

At the end of the day its the boots on the ground that will ultimately get us out of the mess in Stan and unfortunately for us and the Navy that means more money for the Army and not us with the same level of overall spending. We'll get JSF and the Navy will get it's carriers but not much else. The Harrier fleet will be binned early or taken over by the Navy to retain it's experience, the Tornado fleet will be reduced (who knows we might get two up!) and a few more stations will be for the chop, which means less choice for us.

On a more positive note I don't feel like I have to hide the fact I'm in the services anymore and I've even had praise from the public on what we're doing. Hell, Wootten Bassett hated the RAF when I was there in the 90's and now look what their doing, god bless them. :pDT_Xtremez_30:

So to get to the point if possible I think I will be voting for a party on every other issue than defence as we're screwed regardless.:pDT_Xtremez_42:

Big business, especially the financial services industry, caused this mess fella.
Much as I dislike new Labour, they didn't cause the global recession.

Now Dave says I must pay with a pay freeze.

Singlely? Nope but it was a shared failure they did nothing despite all the warning signs and brought in no regulation to stop it. They either didn't see it coming in which case they need to be outed or they did but didn't do anything for what ever reason in which case they need to be out. They caused us to be the worst placed economy to ride it out, there is a debt of £777bn 1/7 of which was used to prop up the banks, where do you think the other 6/7 was spent on and who do you think borrowed and lent us that cash? You cannot keep overspeading so massively year in year out. The train wreck of our economy was going to happen anyway it was a matter of when and not if. Part of the problem is gov overspending so maybe, possible, just possible part of the solution is less gov spending maybe....... fella.
The other part of the problem would be to split the banks as they used to be but GB hasn't a clue, the best time to bring back a firewall to control the banks was months ago when the banks were begging for money he could have made sure this exact problem couldn't reacurring, but no he flapped and didn't do anything, decisive, taking the big decisions my arse. Are the tories any better? Only a fraction.

Bring back Lamont. LOL.

Despite the Conservatives' surprise victory in the April 1992 general election, for these reasons, the ERM policy proved increasingly unsustainable and collapsed on Black Wednesday, when Lamont was forced to withdraw the pound from the ERM despite assuring the public that he would not do so just a week earlier.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make.
