The Defence Secretary has given a clear indication to Sky's Adam Boulton that the General Election will be held on May 6.

The latest leak over the timing of the election will raise further suspicions among Conservative strategists that the Prime Minister is leading the Tories to believe that the date will be May 6, only to spring an earlier date on the Opposition designed to wrong-foot David Cameron's campaign plans.

If Labour win the MoD is doomed. If the Tories win the MoD is doomed. Different timescale maybe, different areas possibly, but Serviceman or Civil Servant your be up the creek without a certain implement. The only winners will be contractors.

I’m more worried about them pulling a fast one and delaying redundancies till after 2013, when it will be much cheaper (3 months pay vs the current 9 months iirc).

Don't hold your breath, the great unwashed (the North and Scotland) and unemployed and immigrants rely on New Liebour for their handouts, as do 1000's in pointless state run inspectorates. They're not going to vote Tory and give up the free lunch. Remember David Cameron was educated at Eton and somehow its become an offence to have a decent education in this country. People would rather vote for bar stewards (Prescott) and the Union funded secret police etc. (I await the knock on the door).
