When I was a lad at Gütersloh the mess opened at 4pm and nights started at 4:30. So you had 15 minutes to shove your, "Tea / Dinner (See other thread)", down your neck before going to work.

I've been out for over 10 years now. But I still shovel my grub down my neck like there's no tomorrow instead of enjoying it.

Anyone else unable to shake off old habits from their time in?

Sad for me that I can not shake off the fact that I became an unwitting war criminal due that debacle in 2003.

Apart from that, a lot of fond memories, good times and friends.

I have the same affliction bought on by many rushed meals before shift starts, funnily enough mine started about the time I was at Gutersloh early 80s.

So that's where I picked up the habit!

Am sure I enjoyed my "Chicken Inn" more at the end of a session more!

Old habits die hard

Even though I have been out for several years, after what seems a life time of guzzling food in record time because of shift, exercises etc, I still eat at warp factor 8.

Even worse I still clean and polish shoes, and even iron trousers!:pDT_Xtremez_09:

I also have a habit of getting to places about 5 to 10 mins before I am due there.:pDT_Xtremez_09:
Unlike most civvies who roll up when it suits them.:pDT_Xtremez_25:

God, yes I can relate to this...

I eat like an Ethiopian at a UN food store - so much so I am plagued by indigestion and chronic flatulence through rushing my food.

I also tend to get to places and meetings at work 5-10 mins beforehand, and become enrgared when people saunter in 10 mins after a meeting starts. I have been physically enraged when attending a meeting that was due to start at, say, 1000, to find the civvy bloke who is giving the brief actually pitches up at 1005 and then plugs in his PC....

I also confuse the hell out of people who ask me if I want a brew and when asked how do I take it, say "NATO, please"...

10 minutes early,

Scoffing food at an alarming rate.

Drinking too quickly 'though to be honest I don't have anywhere near the capacity I once had'.

Short hair shiney shoes.

and finally I just cannot get out of the morning ritual of shaving!!!!!!

Not me, soon got that one out of my system! Once a week, twice if I'm feeling keen. :pDT_Xtremez_31:

Always telling people to 'standby' when I am in the middle of something. And saying that I am just off on a a quick NAAFI break when off to the tea machine.

I am another speed scoffer too. Still shave every day (except sunday if I can get away with it), haircut and shiney shoes compulsory.

I also do the top button of my shirt up and put my tie all the way up. Not bad for somebody who spent his career in either dark blue working shirts or flying attire, it just feels like the right thing to do especially when confronted with some of the ageing hippys I work for.

Oh and this very morning I asked my gaffer if he wanted to swap the hand grenade he obviously uses on his hair every morning for a comb.

Apologies, if I seem a bit grumpy today. but I am translating a 300 page technical document from that french and it is really getting on my thruppeny bits now!

With you on that One.

Once a Fortnight, if lucky.

Some aspects of civilian life are worth embracing.

I got out of the shaving habit pretty quickly, the day I handed my 1250 in I swore never to shave again. Oddly enough I started again after a week but keep it down to once a week or if I'm taking the moosus out these days.

Other habits I have retained include repeating requests made by others of me to make sure I get it right, it annoys the fcuk out of some people who look at you as if you are ginger/retarded or Welsh but at least I get things right and taking every oportuity to p1ss/eat/sleep or have a beer.

All the trappings of being an ex brat are out the window, have beard and hair half way down my back these days, don't even wear shoes that need to be shined. However like quite a few people here, I still have to be between 10 to 15 minutes early for anything. I prefer to come prepared as well, so that if meeting or whatever is scheduled for 10am then I have all my papers, notepad, pencils (two sharpened of course - ex Teleg) and other stuff actually sorted and in front of me, but don't sit to attention....lol

Constantly getting told to slow down etc by family and missus. Although to be fair I always turned up to things 10-15 mins early thanks to my parents getting me in the habit at an early age.
