What Boris failed to mention in the above release was the redundancies enforced on Londons authorities.
Same old Tories real term cuts in spending to keep taxes down, equating to cuts in services.
This is a taste of what will happen when they get in.
What is the alternative though? Labour-incompetant wasters.
Tories tax cutting and slashing public services. The choice would appear to be between the devil and the deep blue sea.

Bl00dy hell, firestorm, you're full of the joys of spring lately, aren't you?

The country is broke. The only sensible thing to do is to make cost savings in public spending. Much can be done in the form of efficiency savings, e.g., cutting through the bureaucracy imposed on policemen, or scrapping the vastly overcomplicated child tax credit system but there will have to be some (hopefully short-term) cuts in public services as well just to try to balance the books for the next few years.

We may not like it, but I seriously doubt Boris and Cameron are jumping for joy at the prospect either.

Cut the fat

Cut the fat

Don't forget that Boris is taking over from a very overstaffed Labour run authority so there are bound to be initial savings to be made.

As far as cutting services at least the Tories cut tax as well, Labour cut services whilst increasing tax (fortnightly bin collections anybody).

Both parties cut services but one will charge you more as they take services away from those just able to cope and lavish them on 13 year old dads and mums.

Politico scum whichever way you turn. Having spent the eighties/nineties under Tory administration, and the nineties/noughties under the Labour administration, my only observation is based on running a business substantially smaller than UK plc.

Spend less than you earn. Simple logic, but quite clear in it's basic form.

Where is the financial control? Whoever wins the next General Election is going to inherit one huge bag of sh!t financially.

My Grandmother had it fairly right, Labour spends what it has and more, Tories inherit and cut the cloth accordingly, balance the books then Labour get in and start the cycle all over again.

It's just a fact of life in this democracy.

Excuse my ignorance, but what the feck has Venezuela got to do with any thing?

"extending for a year the half priced bus and tram fare concession to those on income support without passing the bill to the poor of Venezuela"

Am I missing something?

He was out there advising Hugo on how to run his capital city 'better' ie transport, crime, street cleanliness...I was in the vicinity when he was out there so it stuck in my mind...

It would be incredibly niave of all of us to to not assume that a fair few bungs took place...alledgedly...

Real ray of Sunshine, this. I think Dickens put it rather well:
"Income twenty shillings, Expenditure Nineteen and six equals happiness.
"Income twenty shillings, Expenditure twenty shillings and six pence equals penury".

It's always the same when Conservatives get in.

After years of over spending on complete bollox by the Sh!t party (Can't bring myself to use that word), the Conservatives have to tighten the belt buckle to get us back on track.

Blame Labour for this, not Boris.

Give the country 10 years from when we get this bunch of wasters out and we'll be back on top again. Only for the retards to vote Red again and plunge the county into another 10 year decline.

How many times do the socialist/communist party have to destroy the country before people stop voting them in.....

Well said!

Unfortunatley I think the majority of people who vote them in are the complete wastrels that live on the over-generous benefits that Labour hands out.

Or, playing devil's advocate, it could be that...

Once said Conservative govenment have tightened the country's belt and reduced the huge budget deficits that Labour created and all is well with the country, they then go on to tighten the belt still further, hand our public services over to private intiative (look how well that has worked with public transport!) and just generally take things too far.

The lack of a credible alternative (and I vote Liberal BTW) then leads people to look to Labour and THEN....

The whole cycle begins again!

You're right.
At the moment the non uniform support staff are going, we await the next IRMP though.
The last station to close was Man Square in 2005 in the last IRMP.
