Had enough of the yanks after 4 days here. What is it about tipping for everything? Even on our free courtesy bus from the hotel, I am expected to tip.


Any top tips for nights out apart from Voodoo et al?

Good nights out........MIX bar in Mandalay 64th floor, but go before 10pm and there is no charge - chill outside, but go in before 11pm as the cover charge is V LARGE and a bottle starts at about $200 ish...

Crown and Anchor is a good Bar - lots of different beer including good old STELLA !!!!

MGM and Studio 54 - night club - again get a stamp on your hand as early as poss and then you do not have to wait in line - just go back in via the exit!!! easy!!

Nine fine irishmen and the piano bar in NEW YPRK NEW YORK...

Military discount on EVERYTHING including all the rollercosters in the casinos - - new york new yorks is good as is Saharas

Food in the Vanition is nice as is the Balagio !!

Find the micro-brewers as they do good food as well as BEER

As for tipping - yes I guess we have to tip all, or just walk away, but be careful - we had a waitress throw our money back and scream at us cos she thought the tip was too small - so being brit, we picked it up and left, much to her dismay!!!!

There is a nice Italian restaurant on Convention centre drive, we stayed in the Marriot nextdoor when I was there with TIB. The food is very good, not cheap, but good. The guy that runs it has very close links to the mafia and used to live in london but left cos he p***ed off the Krays. Apparently scenes from Goodfellas were filmed in there.


No doubt Marshall of the RAF will correct me on most of this cos hes a vegas genius, but the food was nice.

Something different to all you can eat buffets and fatburger!!

Any way Hazard there is the beginnings of a big night out starting at Tangerine at 2000 Last night madness for some, first night for others. There will be a push to New York New York, some antics on a rollercoaster, voodoo, ghost, pure and light bar - bring on the hangover!

tangerine bar for 9ish (pirate ship crap) for the vegas Virgins(Hansbwix, pudding, red goose spook). Rumour has it that the Royal Marines (a few years ago) took the ship during a show. Would have paid serious money to have seen that. Not too sure if they called naked bar beforehand though...

Reason for tipping is the notoriously bad wages in the US. If you check it out you'll find it's around $4.50-$4.95 per hour, most servers rely on your tips to live. A lot of them are "trailer trash" or less well off kids working through college. There are a few professional servers in the holidasy resorts (Florida etc). Spoke to one guy in "Denny's Diner" on I-Drive, Kissamee who made on average $10.00 per table, he bussed 8 tables with the occupants staying on average and hour and he did a 10 hour shift 5 days a week. They also have to declare it for tax. As an aside in the UK, bar staff and waiters are also amongst the lowest paid in the country, they also tend to work long hours, so if you get a good one, and there is no service tax included, let him or her know you appreciate the service.

head for the best steak dinner in town in the resturant at Circus Circus - if you are lucky and flutter you eyelashes, the waiter usually gives the Brits and especially Service people free cocktails and wine with the dinner - yippee!

However, down side is the fact that you have to scramble you way over the hordes of kids that run riot in Circus Circus

I can't believe the Rum Jungle hasn't been mentioned, that's just basics. Would tell you where it is but I can't remember as we went there after the voodoo lounge and I'd had one witch doctor too many (ie one, I was afraid of the second).

The Rum Jungle is in Mandalay Bay and Red Square next door is also very good. Kahunaville in TI is fun when the bar staff do their 'cocktail' thing AND you get free shots. Fusia in the Luxor is a great asian restaurant, although can be a little pricey (ate there last night - $580 for 9 of us). The Top of the World Restaurant in the Stratosphere is worth trying - great lunch menu and as the restaurant takes 80 minutes to do 360 degrees' rotation, they don't rush you (unlike lots of other places.) Z Teja's on Paradise is great Southwest cuisine.

For clubs, Rain in the Palms is pretty good and Risque in the Paris is also worth a look. Coyote Ugly is becoming a tired old cliche and frankly isn't worth the wait, just to see fat old tarts from Minnesota pretend that they're Piper Perabo! A good alternative to Gordon Biersch is the Monte Carlo Pub and Brewery, which has decent grub and serves an excellent range of beers

Thing is with you Red Flag/Air Warrior types is that you ALWAYS go to the same places! Select any from the following: Gordon Biersch, Bar at Times Square (Piano Bar), Nine Fine Irishmen, Ghost, Voodoo Lounge, Hard Rock and Tangerine....
