Transfer Army - RAF

SSgt, REME, mate in the army has a young Pte who wants to transfer Army to RAF. SSgt has asked me what are the manning levels like and if they are short on numbers for:

Photog
Mechanic
Stores
RAF Regt

Anyone in the know? Is it a case of visiting the AFCO in the first instance or does he need to approach his unit first?

Blimey, ok, have been given a bit more of the story!

Guy wishing to transfer is a 20 year Sgt!

Is remuster possible at that age and rank?

Not sure how if this guy is serious or just had enough of the army.

We've got an ex booty here who txr'd to GTM and was told he would be promoted in no time....... as part of the NEM he's now on less money and in the pot with all the other GTM's trying to get promoted before their 4th year in rank......
As for his transfer he may be a REME Sgt but what sub trade? he'd probably be expected to do either the Full GTM Trade course of 18 months or an abridged version then the applicable TMT's to prove he is Trade savvy.
Assimilation even for GSE and MT Fitters was around 5-6 months to become M's
Not saying it can't be done but might need looking into and getting in writing if someone is promising them certain reserved rights, as our booty was "told" one thing but has nothing in writing to back it up and is subsequently out of pocket until he does get promoted.
