Hasn't the new OC FOTS declared he wishes all FOTS students to "specialise, specialise, specialise"? Well thats what I've seen in an e-mail. Now there's something for the rumour mill...

Flt Ops Pass Mark

Flt Ops Pass Mark

Fennella!

WHERE do you get your info from me dear??!! What utter tripe you posted re the 'floating pass mark' !! Or did I miss the point of the this being a rumour forum and are we meant to invent stories to get rumours going??

The pass mark was a set 60% for exams and recently revised 75% for exams and sims. 74.5% means a re-sit!!

You have to admit though Mrasitis (or Ms) that the sims are pants, not very realistic!

Failing a sim is like failing a course foto!! :D :D :D :D

The sims are greatly limited by the fact you can only get one phone call at a time. Anyone who has worked in a busy ops room knows that would be a luxury!! Setting up a sim for a training course like this is difficult to be fair, but the sims are a vital part of the course.

To my knowledge only one person has failed the FOTS course. Another, who i won't name, got chopped but argued he had not been told about his weaknesses in the areas he was chopped for before (and could prove it) so was given a kind of recourse. A few weeks one to one with a certain Aux WO.

What an absolute blinder tellitasitis another classic example of an Ops Officer getting it wrong. In defence of Fenella it was not her who mentioned floating pass marks but me on page 2 of this thread.

Might I suggest you read the information given to you prior to making comments (or making decisions for that matter) then maybe, one day, you and your "specialisation" will have some credibility.

Much chuckling!!

izitme,

As you made the original comment, perhaps you would like to explain how you aqcuired your information. I suspect that Tellit is closer to the truth than you claim to be.

FYI I'm not Flt Ops, but have worked with both the good and bad of the trade/branch. I have seen, through my work in TDGA, that there are many in the branch struggling uphill to make life better for all, none more so than the recently posted OC FOTS.

Oh really, I find that difficult to believe! :D

and since when did TGDA have any idea about what was happening in the real world! or is that for another thread.

I think now is the time to maybe get back to the discussion point I raised at the beginning of this thread and get away from the mud slinging (which I will admit to being part of). The question was:

Is there a future for the Flight Ops Branch :D

from all the talking, finger pointing and mud-slinging over the finer points, I have to admit that although there might not be light at the end of the tunnel, with a few minor improvements, at least it'll be less dark there. lol :D

Not having read further in than page 5 may I throw in my tuppence.

OpsOfficer mentioned as former FOTC FC (?) who thoroughly deserved promotion. If it is the person I think it is I agree although I am surprised it took so long. Also, if it is the person I think it is, he was ex-SNCO aircrew and flight deck at that so in some ways it does not count.

Regarding the quality of SNCO aircrew transferring to Flt Ops there is nothing new there. It was almost a rite of passage. Kipper fleet AEOp, commissioned and posted as an Ops Officer. We had two on my first Ops tour. One was ex-Neptunes and a professional fg off and the other was a complete self-serving b*st*rd who later became an estate agent. I came across hom a few years later when he had gazzupped one of our instructors. He said the sale fell through and then bought the same house himself cheaper.

Cant be ex flight ops, too much initiative in that!! :D :D :D

And then we had one of the new Flt Ops branch starters, a failed scribbly seeing the brand new FOB as a quick way to promotion (and getting nearer aircrew?)

Had a very cavalier attitude to time keeping. Couldn't pull the wool over the Staishes's eye as she breezed in about an hour after shift change, in civvies. "Hello ***** late start or early stack?" Good call and the fact that this was a rare 'off-shift' appearance should not get in the way of a good tale.

Then, to our amazement she was assimilated and posted to a plans job.

Just got to sat something....

Just got to sat something....

Well, normally being a resident of PRuNe, I stumbled across this little gem; and, being of the Ops O variety (albeit still at the bottom of the food chain) I found this thread oh, so interesting and just had to say something.
Apart from the venting of spleens that seems to have gone before, and to return to the original question - no I can't see much in the future of the branch / specialisation. Whilst I don't agree with some of the posts already made, I can understand the sentiments that lie behind them, as (shock) I think the OSB missed a masive opportunity when it didn't take TG9 under it's wing.
Yes, there may be many Ops O types that are not yet cutting the mustard, but from what I've seen so far in here, they are mainly first tourists with no previous experience - give the guys and girls a break! But at the same time, if they really really deserve the 'lesson in life' then let them learn - we all had to start somewhere.
Anyway, from my experience, those at the coal face are trying to make the best under difficult circumstances and what we (both Flt Ops AND TG9) need is some decent direction and guidence from our 'blokes at the top'. Until we do, well, this thread seems to suggest what will happen in the meantime.
Rant / whinge off. Sit back and watch others do whatever others will do

ps formerflake - do I know you. PM me
