Sir Starmer has allegedly called for those involved in the Kabul Air Lift to be awarded medals.

I think it's a given that a few DFC's and possibly an AFC may be awarded for the RAF contigent...

...but medals all round?

...but medals all round?
How far all round?
Just the people who were actually "boots on the ground" there?
Military planners who never left blighty, back up staff from refuellers to MT drivers, intel bods, medical staff who received the incoming folk ?
The list has the potential to be as long as you want to make it.

Simples, no new medal required; the standard Herrick medals for those on the ground (with possible tweaks to qualifying requirements?) and individual awards (such as DFC/AFC) for those who deserve them iaw the normal qualifying criteria. Job done.

KS should stop trying to make political capital out of it.

Doesn’t feel like a medal type event, won’t it get counted for the accumulated one?

Well the MOD and Services now have more people "planning" and "facilitating" as opposed to working on the coal face so that would be about right...........................

Long ago 2011 the debate about who should or should not get medals for getting rid of Col Gadaffi was aired on these hallowed pages. It's a bit of a plod through but ...........

From the old thread

Mr Masher said “Italy have offered the use of their airfields. Pizza medal anyone?!!”

Tommo said “I'd quite happily go back to Palermo and set the det up. Great hotel, loads of wonga and 1 Tristar. Perhaps even a medal to go with it”

Vim said “Yep can't go to war without bluntys to prove that paperwork is more important than flying...”

Similar points of view expressed about going on nice dets, hotels, medals for selected clingons etc etc. The more things change the more they stay the same.

If there was a firefight with the TB to get people out, then I'd support a medal. But they literally sat back and let everyone leave - so no, I don't think a medal is warranted for people doing their jobs on this occasion.

...would make for a hell of a front page though - 'lone e-goater takes on all hostile forces in firefight for Kabul airfield'....
Pathe news has reports of an ancient e-goater on a comfy chair warmly wrapped in a travel tartan rug and wearing the big slipper fueled only by Horlicks and a steady supply of Wurthers originals steadfastly preventing access to the airfield(Stop) Enemy driven mad by frequent gas emissions and the repeated gibberish of old school cliches (Stop) Apparently the deaf old git doesn't know the way to Alan's Snack bar no matter how many times they shout "Alan's snack bar"? (Stop)

With it being so short I don’t suppose HQSTC had time to set up “exec get a medal holidays”. Fly in, get in the way, be there absolute minimum time, fly out a hero with medal to prove.
