Announced today, 22 June from Downing Street, that the Triple-Lock will be reinstated and honoured in full (for Pensioners) for April 2023, based on the September 2022 CPI rate. My question is - and hoping the AF PS Staff can confirm or advise, "is the statement geared for ALL Pensioners, including ex AF personnel, or will it be limited to State Pensioners only?" - i.e. ex AF retired Personnel may incur a reduced rate.

The chancellor controls state pensions.
The triple lock ensures that the state pension will always increase each year in line with either inflation, the average wage increase or 2.5%, whichever is the highest.

It's the only way they will win the next election. State pension only.

Fully concur with the info above; just wondering if the CPI % rate would be honoured for MoD Pensions next year, or whether there was a mechanism not to ...

I would imagine that the cost of the MOD pension uplift would be minute compared to the cost of the state pension uplift, and it would be churlish not to increase occupational state pensions by CPI - after all, its been their flagship way of doing it for well over a decade now.

I dare say all those state-owned things that rise in cost by CPI (Rail fares for example) will still happen.

Given the forecasts that the Conservatives are not going to do well in the next GE to mess with pensions would be political suicide. Rishi can't abondon the triple lock for ethical, moral or political reasons that would be a political stain that generations would remember.

One could say that this is democracy according to demographic in action perhaps?

The triple lock was always a dangerous gamble for a government to introduce. Maintaining it relies upon a constantly growing economy, and that could never be guaranteed. The only lock pensions should have is to inflation so that their buying power remains constant. It was inevitable that at some point a government, of any colour, would have to break it at least in part for at least some period of time. After the last 2 years of give aways etc some cuts in government spending had to come at some point.

Don’t agree with the triple lock, however, what inflation rate really matches the personal inflation rate of all pensioners.

There are plenty of grassroots conservatives who will agree with that statement.
