Got a flyer through the door about this today. Because of the disruption we get a discount in the spectator area but cannot watch it anywhere else on base. The spectator area is only accessable via CG5 which is 3 miles from Married Quarters. My guess is that not many people will want to attend as we cant get there unless we drive and que up with the great unwashed!

im sorry mate but im at marham and will quite happily drive round to see a fantastic couple of days entertainment for a fiver a day! the disruption is no more than we are used to every other day of the week (i doubt a rally car is as loud as a tonka).
to be fair i would pay the tenner if needs be its for charity and a good one at that

if you feel that one of our own charaties isnt worth supporting then shame on you, but I know for a fact you are a minority on camp.

as for calling the civilian population the great unwashed, you need to get off your high horse. its people like you that cause us most of the agro we get outside the wire with you out of date ideas.

I don't have a problem with watching it from one area, I have a problem with the fact that I have to drive all the way round the outside of camp to get there. I know people who live in who are not going because they do not drive and there is nothing laid on, I also know a family on base who can't get there because her husband is away and she does not drive. Why hasn't the unit put some sort of transport on for these people?

The event has been and gone now, and was a massive success. Speaking to the boss, he's seriously thinking of letting us do it again next year.

Thank you to all who made the effort to attend, I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.


Shiney Rob, all I'll say is. If you've got ideas that you think could help the event run smoother, why didnt you give the event team a ring and air them? Its all well and good bitching and moaning on here, but we've all been far too busy trying our hardest to put on a fantastic event and make our dreams come true. We cant think of everything can we!!!

as for "I borrowed a line that I have seen on this site many a time", doesnt make it right does it. your defence leaves alot to be desired.

Any news on any damage to the runway,taxiways,airfield lighting? :0

RAF Marham is a front line operational airfield and not a bloody racing track, no matter how deserving the charity.

In the coming days the potential for damage or loss of an aircraft/aircrew from FOD is massive and I can't believe the Airships approved such buffoonary on an active airfield. What was wrong with using the disused airfields at RAF Honington, Bent waters,Woodbridge, Watton, Sculthorpe or Swanton Morley or even Snetterton as that is a bloody racing track?

That is why everybody is doing a FOD plod of the entire airfield before normal activities recommence...

And your points of arguement is irrelevent to what happens on an RAF station!! The FOD produced during the families day was more of a problem... Sorry wasn't a problem, as the airfield was swept as well as it will be tomorrow!


And attacking my attitude to Flight Safety is unjustified and uncalled for .. knobh*ad.
 
Chaka, If your doing "your bit" then there wont be any bits of subaru left on the airfield for the Tonkas to injest.

The reason the event was held at Marham, on a front line base, was because Richard Burns came to Marham before his death. He was taken up in an aircraft and then took out members of 13 sqn, one of whom was the event organiser.

Dont think it would have had as much of an impact if we'd held it a venue that runs club rallies all year round. The fact that the competitors had the chance to use what is very high quality tarmac is what interested them most, plus the fact we have raised a lot of cash for a charity you may need to call on in the future.

For me the glass is half full on this one, maybe your outlook should be the same, try looking at the positives for Marham. Thousands of potential recruits came onto Marham and saw the best side of the RAF. They saw that there is the potential to do anything you want while your in, and in my opinion, that can only be a good thing.

RAF Marham Richard Burns Memorial Rally 2009

The 2009 RAF Marham Richard Burns Memorial Rally is well into the planning stage. The dates are the 15th and 16th of August.
At the moment the organising team are working to engage with high profile competitors. As soon as we have confirmation of who will be competing these details will be released.
It is hoped that despite the current economic climate, we will be able to provide an event which will be better that last years, which Motorsport News voted 2nd best Rally 2008. Beaten only by the McRae Stages - a worthy winner.
If anyone who went last year has any constructive criticisms or ideas then let me know. Please don't moan about trekking to the other side of the airfield etc we know the feelings about that!
We want to put on a first class event and exceed last years total of over the£40,000 raised.

More info will follow as it comes in.
