Must admit I haven't read much about this but I heard today that there is consideration to drop to just 10 trade groups and to reduce the number of ranks. As this is a rumour site which trades will combine and which ranks are prime for the chop?

Officer corp ranks and numbers to stay the same bringing their "superior" Project Management "skills" to the fore in a time of need and change. They will be interchangeable in any environment whether it be technical/support/admin where their "leadership and management" will shine through in any environment despite not being branch/trade experts. Also they can have Project [whatever name today is deemed as cool] on their OJARS/CVs since all 10,000 were the principle POC in the project!!!!!!

TG1/TG 4/TG 5/TG 11 to all combine into an uber technical trade called TG 3. It's OK..aircraft safety is covered as everyone will have done HF Cont training so 455 is covered by Ivory Towers and they ARE NOT paying lip-service to air safety!!!! Just do a PET course and pick up the latest servicing manual and you can go. TG4 Ex Peanut cadre to lead the brand new amalgamated trade into a new (FAILED!!) age. Ex TG 1 and Ex-former 3s and TG5s to be blamed for not making NEW TG3 work due to their constant boring ramblings about legality, health and safety, HF, quality assurance, training, experience etc. New rank structure introduced to replace SAC(T). Junior Technician (J/T) rank introduced with 4 propellors. Trade training will have Introduction to Charity Work/Supporting the Community course introduced to ensure that this is given priority for promotion.

MT and Admin gone since they merely point out "your failings" in trying to decipher their policies and procedures when trying to do basic tasks such as book a wagon/advance of pay etc utilsing some 5h1t computer system. Effectively you have been doing their jobs the last few years years!!!

I'm drinking now so more will be inbound as to this "great idea" .....

For my 2p worth: Total of 3 Engineering trades (heavy, electronics and off aircraft). Photog's go (copper's trained for forensics and engineers for their elements, other local business!) HR to call centre (working from home during covid?) Welfare elements fully to ssafa. CM FTRS? MT, Logistics completely amalgamated. Fire go, musicians FTRS. Medical all one trade, then streamed within. Regt go, requirement taken on by army? The number of trades will go down but they will have specialist streams within so smoke and mirrors.

Ranks to go I reckon Chf Tech, Fg Officer and Air Commodore (makes it look good to the urks!) who knows though and by 2040 who will still be in to see it??

Perhaps time for an even grander move towards the Canadian model of a defence force...got to be mega savings with only one uniform, stationary etc?

The only way that I can see to get rid of the Chiefs is to make Flight Sergeant into WO2 (OR-7 to OR-8) and CT into FS (stay as OR-7).

The number of ranks will stay the same but they will align to the other UK forces.

Haven't the Canucks been trying to move away from such a system since its inception in the 60's? I'm fairly sure that they now have Air, Sea and Land branches.

That would be another step towards absorption, integration, assimilation into the Green Slime.
