"The F-35 warplane still needs reboots to get the aircraft airborne, a US Senate committee has heard, and troubling problems persist in the project's security."

The whole idea of re-setting the thing, [whilst in flight?] is barking; or have I missed something ?

Fuller details here LINKY.

A simple case of overcomplicating the design. I'm sure it will come good in the end but after how much investment when a simpler and cheaper solution that is known to work would have sufficed!!

To have a single platform capable (eventually) of doing all that the F35 is envisioned as, there really is no less complicated and cheaper solution. There is a humongous amount of integration across many facets here, and all present their own niggles which in time will be ironed out.

I can see a future when they outsource the IT for the F35 to India:

Pilot - 'Hi, my aircraft's dropping out of the sky, any suggestions?'.

Indian Call centre - 'Hello respected Sir, have you tried turning it off and on again?'.
