Loss of RnR for 6 month detachments

and the rest will be RAF? Chefs,Clerks,RAFP et al?

4everAD - you've actually raised a very good point here. The FAA Squadrons are augmented with the type of personnel you have listed, in order to augment the ships company so that they can cope with the influx of extra personnel that a Squadron brings when they embark.

Chefs, stewards, writers (clerks), stores bashers and a regulator (RAFP), are the norm - so the net is cast far and wide. Some of these people work away from the Squadron when back at base, in the Wardroom/cookhouse etc, so are gainfully employed at all times.

There has also been talk of the REME being posted to the ship permanently to assist the ships engineers, as the branch is currently in a critical state and there is no way they could man both carriers.

So all in all - possibly a very tri- service venture awaits many people.

Could be an opportunity for some trades to bump up their numbers.

I love the way the brief states that the loss of the 2 weeks r&r is for cohesion on the 6 month det
But the way they explain it is for formed units detaching ie Army
The RAF do not deploy to MPA as a formed unit so people rotate in and out throughout the 6 month period so there is no cohesion.
It has also come to light that there are many trades still only attracting a 4 month stint while others are doing 6 so where is the one force parity?
Tail wagging the dog again with it all going around in circles again.....soon it will be back to Army 6 months RAF 4 months Navy whatever they like on their floating camp.
What next the 2 Typhoon Stations doing 6 month formed unit turn arounds from station personel so it's COHESIVE and no fekker else doing OOA until something else kicks off?

Oh for the good old days!

Oh for the good old days!

Well good luck to the RAF trying to find the personnel to do that, surely aircraft flying off a carrier should be manned and maintained by the Fleet Air Arm (the clue's in the title after all)? Why don't they just make us one defence force and be done with it!

Didn't Canada try this one service idea. Apparently it failed due to lack of staff moral!

In the good old days (weren't they all} an unaccompanied tour was for 13 month; 6 months on tour, a month off followed by a further 6 months unaccompanied.
It took an awful lot of willpower to go back!!!!!!!!!!!
