As a current FOA (SAC) and thinking on leaving just wondering what jobs people have gone into from this trade. Ive had a look about and am not getting much of an idea. Anyone got any stories?

Cheers

I know of a few that have gone into civi aviation (Ops/planners etc), and some that have gone to work for local authorities (as the employer) in Fire/Police/Ambulance control rooms. LisaB, despite the traffic warden jokes, actually has a responsible job looking after the motorway network in a similar role.

However, aviation these days is not what it once was, they are cutting back and many have ceased all recruiting. You'd be lucky to get an in there...

I left the mob awhile back and now work with Antonovs (Ruslan International ex Air Foyle) in an Ops role.

We have just taken on an Ex Opsie in the route planning department.

At the moment it is a bit slack in the outside world but keep looking on the websites like aviationjobsearch / Flight International etc and you may strike lucky

Or if you still want to on the Mil side ISAF somtimes come up trumps

or the UN

wrong time to find a job in civvy street, I had a chat with a guy at Netjets a few weeks ago and he's saying that the whole industry in civvi street is suffering. They just laid off 200 pilots. I think everyone is staying put at the minute and only moving if they have too

As others have said its all a matter of timing I was lucky to leave West-Drayton MAS and jump into the CAA (with a lot of other ex RAF) and now work in Brussels for Eurocontrol CFMU.
It looks like the only airlines who are expanding are the low budget airlines and they dont have big ops setups
(Ryanair have just set one up)

here is a link for our vacancies

Although your post is correct in general, NetJets are bunch of idiots and hired far too many pilots and were far too optimistic about growth and are now paying the price. And the got rid of 51% of pilots, 57% of cabin crew and 98 people from the office as well as the usual sackings that always go on. Yet some how they continue to promote senior managers to made up jobs!!!

Back to the question in hand, stay in for another 12 months if you want to work in civy ops. Be advised that TG9 and Flt Ops, in general, have a very good bunch of chaps who receive (in real terms) pretty good training. Do not expect to work with such good qaulity people in civy ops. There are some good 'ens of course, but not many.

On the plus side the civies use far better technoilogy and do not waste time logging everything and passing airborne and landing times over the phone like the 1920s!!
