The historical effort was to have troops in place to deter or ‘handle’ a Soviet invasion. It didn’t happen so we pulled out. Now it’s happening so we should put it back right?

On the surface a nice idea to re-establish a larger NATO presence in the Germany Poland area, but a pipe dream these days I reckon. Where are we to get the bodies? The UK forces have been pared to the bone, the extra bods we once stationed over there are long gone. I don't think we have enough resources to re-set a 21st Century version of RAFG, thought some LOA would be a bonus for those still serving.

Putin or his replacement would be a fool for deliberately putting a single military boot on any NATO territory, it wouldn’t take long to sort him out, the Ukraine war has highlighted how weak his military machine is in a real war scenario.

Just a shame he has nuclear weapons.

I don't believe we have the resources or funding to even consider this. With the defence budget not even getting a mention let alone an increase this tells us all we need to know how any government regards the Armed Forces. It will all be too late when they need us.

I expect they are long time served Sgts though.
