Just how different did England look and play last night?

Rooney who?

It was a pleasure to watch 11 players who actually wanted to play tear an almost first-choice German side apart.

For me, the difference between the team last night and the "Golden Generation" that failed so spectacularly in 2010 is money. The current crop are pretty much all under 24, which means they are on their first or second contract with their club, many of whom have developed them from an early age, and whilst they will be very well paid, they wont be in the ridiculous wages bracket yet. They haven't yet had their agent angled for the £200,000+ a week that the likes of Rooney, Lampard, Terry, Ferdinand, Gerrard, etc were commanding.

When you are pulling in close to £1 million a month, the hunger to actually do well on the pitch goes, even if you think you are giving 100% every game.

2 cracking goals from Kane and Vardy. Rooney has been past it for a number of years now and we have a good crop of youngsters ready to replace him and although Vardy is no spring chicken he has that youthful hunger.

Vardy's go all just took the p1ss...it was something off a 5-aside court!
