I’m a proppa Ford geek me, But no later than the early 90's.

Especially the introduction of the fekin Mondeo!!
Ford started its slippery slope with the cant be bothered invention of that boring toss of a road waster!! They did have a small blip along the road to boringdome with the short lived Escort Cosworth but that is It.!!::(:
As far as I am concerned the Ford Cr@pdeo goes hand-in-hand with bl@@dy caravans.::/:
Don’t want to upset anyone here so if I have offended then I am sorry. I don’t intend to get at the Mondeo owner (or caravan owner if that is your thing) just p1ssed off with Ford letting its follower’s down.:pDT_Xtremez_21:

I'd have to agree Scooby.

Some of my favourite ever (attainable) cars were fords. The Capri 2.8 injection special, the 3.0 sport. The 70's Granada, especially the coupe.

I'd still really like a mark 1 escort.

It's not just Ford though to be honest.... pretty much every vehicle looks like all the others these days.

As a result of the boringness of modern cars I have gone down the German route for the family car with an Audi A6 complete with cup holders, lots of them!!
But my toy's will always remain to be porn style Fords. The mk1 Fiesta Supersport is my weapon of choice at the mo, would love a nice mk1 Escort Mexico but the wife insists on a large house, and multi-millions in the bank first!! Hence my incessant lottery ticket purchases!!:pDT_Xtremez_30:

I got a mondeo. Well at £2,000 5 year old and only 45,000 on the clock it was a steal for the zetec model!

It's a car, gets me from A to B and if I put me toe down it goes faster. Space for the kids and associated crap. Tobe honest, I'd probably have bought anything about that size, but mondeos last into their 100,000 miles plus, so there's no problems with the engine lasting, now just got to worry bout the bodywork rusting away (like my old '89 fiesta 950cc)

My 1st car was a Mk 1 Escort, great little motor at the time, Then came Bruggen and a left hand drive 3 ltr Capri, Awesome beast that was. Came home with a XR2, big mistake that was. Drove a ford mondeo hire car recently, bag o sh1te. Gone German myself now with a passat. Ford have lost respect thats for sure.

mondeos last into their 100,000 miles plus,

To be honest mate, anything these days does. Even Fiats.

I drove a 1988 Escort into the ground at 130,000 miles about 10 years ago.

If you buy Scandinavian or German you've got to be dissapointed if it doesn't p!ss 200,000.

I think the point scooby made is (excuse me scooby if I'm stepping on your toes) not that Mondeos are good dependable cars. They are. But so is everything else. It's that Ford have gone blandly predictable, and they used to do some stonking motors.

All car manufacturers tend to produce the same old good, reliable, pacey, comfortable look-alikes these days. The day of the Escort Mexico etc have gone.

Personally I'd like a Skoda Octavia as my next car. That says a lot!

I have to say my Ford Scorpio 2.9 (bug eyed version) doesn't look like everything else on the road !!

'97 bought at 4 year old for £2500 (sold at just under £30,000 new).....now 6 years later still going 150,000 on the clock and good for another 100,000 or so i reckon.

Some don't like the "shape" but i do.

One of the best Ford ever made (recently)

Crack on..............:pDT_Xtremez_09:

As always Tashy, there's an exception!

The bug eyed Granada was, and is, a great car. Unfortunately for Ford, they screwed up the looks. I know you say you like it, but the vast majority hated it. Hence why you picked up a superb bargain.

Eye of the beholder and all that, but it's bloody ugly. All that said, I'm glad you got your bargain.

My biggest point is (and I think this is quite important when it comes to the second biggest purchase you will probably ever make) what was the last Ford you drove that actually made you grin like a Cheshire cat?? The old one's were a dab-hand it for me. But now one can’t help but develop a sudden case of Narcolepsy when one gets behind the wheel!!:pDT_Xtremez_17:

My 2litre Si Mondeo and my 2.5 V6 mondeo. Both mk1's.One handled well and the other went like fook.
Now one is in the garage with the head gasket blown a 2nd time and the other is written off thanks to some **** in an MGF driving like a cnut!
Miss driving the Si.

I used to really love Mk2 Escorts particularly 1600 Sport and 2Ltr RS Custom (of which I owned 4).

Other Fords I've owned are Fiesta XR2, Escort Mk3, Capri GT Mk2, Cortina Mk 3/4/5

In total, I've owned about 25 Fords but I don't really like the newer stuff.

I seem to remember they were good fun to drive and easy to work on.

Recently took a 56 plate Mondeo 2.2TDCI Ghia X (top of the range - all the toys, full leather etc) Estate for a test drive.

Very smooth, torquey diesel, very comfy seats, loads of kit and a huge car. But boy did it feel big. And on the twisty bits it scared the $hit out of me - absolutely no steering feedback whatsoever - I did not feel at all connected to the car - no warning of loss of grip or anything.

but it was 12k for one hell of a lot of car with a mere 13k miles on the clock. But that says a lot - 11 months old and its lost close to 10 grand. Thats well over 40% depreciation in a year.

depends whatyou wantreally - for comfy motorway cruising - the mundaneo would be perfect. And my dad has a ew focus and loves it - it's bland but it's a very good car. And who needs a sporty monster these days? the roads are only ever clear of traffic in car adverts and with speed cameras, speed humps, tractors, old people doing 40 etc, you can't enjoy a fast, sporty car. Better to be in a comfy, safe, reliable and bland car.

But I'll stick with my beemer thanks.

Word of warning! If you change the cambelt (or your local garage does more likely), make sure they change all the tensioner wheels as well. Belt had been changed on my prior to buying it, however the Cnuts who changed it didnt replace the wheels. Ford designed the bl***y things with a lightweight plastic surround that shatters into a million pieces and throws the belt. Mrs ILLKC was driving the kids to riding when the plastic shattered. The enging tried to continue for another 200 metres (rough as hell) before she turned a corner and good Zetec Engine became scrap!:pDT_Xtremez_25:
