Sadly It's China and their usual positions are total news silence on the topic or "no comment" or "all is well here" and eventually the world moves onto the next important thing. All the Chinese have to do is let her turn up and play, do TV interviews, freely interact with social media and allow her to travel but they won't. It's good that the WTA has made a stand but small fish large ocean springs to mind. China isn't really bothered by the USA's words on Taiwan so the WTA barely registers as an inconvenience.

Until the world starts treating China like it does Iran, nothing will change. And because the world needs cheap chinese goods to import, that wont happen.

Principles have a price, and sadly most of our world leaders put profit before principle.

A block on the winter olympics might help raise her case (if she's still alive) but even the Olympic Committee appears to be too cash-centric these days.
