Heard from a friend who had been briefed by Trade Sponsor that we are being rebranded yet again, CIS (Communication Information Specialist) was mentioned. Anyone able to deny or confirm?
Personally I can't wait, it's another one to add to the list:

1. EL Mech AD
2. EL Tech AD
3. Eng Tech EL
4. CIS Tech
5. CIS IM (OK this one was my own doing!)
6. ICT Tech

A rebadging of the trade has been on the cards for a while as the current title ICT Tech is seen as being at the root of the recruitment issue. In the schools ICT is seen as Microsoft Office Applications, Excel, word, etc so why join a trade that does that sort of thing if you want to do technical stuff.

Whatever they pick I don't see it making a difference, from what I hear all 3 services have a recruitment/retention problem within their relevant IT trades, it just isn't seen as an attractive option.

TG3 and 11 had problems recruiting long before the ICT title came along.

Or RSIGS (RAF Corps)

It's a possibility!

And nothing, as they say, is impossible.

I agree! ICT was probably the brand that the upper management went for as it correlates with the school curriculum and therefore easier for the newer generation to digest. There was nothing wrong with CIS Tech as it alluded to this being a technical job.... It might be easier just to call it Communications Technician/Engineer. Thoughts?

What specialist qualifications does an ICT Tech gain at the end of Trade Training and what is the outlook like post engagement?

Isn't CIS a sexuality term for normally orientated?

No, i don't think that's appropriate for tg4 at all.

We drew away from a solely 'IT' description as IT is, these days, so much more and captured everything we do under a new title of 'Information Management' or 'IM'. I'm guessing that someone somewhere is much happier with this outcome...I just haven't found them yet.

4everAD, don't forget the predecessor to these listed - GRAD (I was right on the tail end of that when I joined up and passed out as an L Tech AD)

I asked 1RS OC about this in the tea bar and he said they were thinking of renaming it to 'Battlespace systems technician' to try and make it sound 'a little more punchy' to younger people. I hope it doesn't change to that. We, the phase 2 trainees, were asked to provide suggestions and the most plausible one anyone on my course came up with was Communications Systems Tech.
