Hi Guys!

I left the Navy after talking redundancy in 2012.

I now find myself completely fed up with civilian life and am thinking of joining up again this time as an RAF policeman.

I see from the recruitment page you must take the attestation before your 33rd birthday. As I am 33 in November I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea if getting in in this timescale would be possible? Planning on going into AFCO anyway but thought I would ask on here aswell.

Thanks in Advance.

I'd imagine that you're chances of attesting before your 33rd would depend entirely on the manning needs of the trade you are applying for - for that info, you'll need to speak to the AFCO or a Goat in the know. I've no idea the exact manning needs of the snowdrops, but the whole of the MOD is pretty dire at the moment so chances could be quite good if you act quickly.

That said - if you were to rejoin the MOB, would you not need to hand back your redundancy payout?

Have you considered the Reserves? The lines between reserve and regular are being increasingly blurred and periodic short term mobilisations re becoming relatively common.

What did you do in the Navy if you don't mind the question?

Also, have you thought about the impact on any pension you are drawing post redundancy?

If you look through the forums, we have a specialist Pensions segment which you may find useful so feel free to ask away.

I was an Aircraft Technician in the RN but fancy a complete change from Engineering.

I will have to pay back some of my redundancy payment but as is a percentage over 5 years ,which is up next March, it will be a fairly small amount. I only done 10 years so my pension is preserved till 65 and I'm drawing nothing.

I have no medical problems, however my biggest concern is the horror stories of have heard regarding the company running the medicals nowadays.

Hopefully the AFCO will be able to give me a glimmer of hope!

RAFP is undermanned at the minute, what with too many redundancies and PVR's going on (although the Ivory Towers will never admit this!)

Get to the AFCO asap - nothing to lose. Also, one of my best bosses was ex-fish head, now Sqn Ldr copper.

Thanks for the info. I tried to pop in today but couldn't get away from work in time so made an appointment for next week at AFCO.

Sun Ldr's name isn't R************** by any chance? Was a Leading hand on my squadron when I was a baby AET who went RAF police officer.

RAFP is currently over manned to about 110% although this does not mean they are not recruiting as there needs to be through flow. If you want to be a basic Plod then less chance I would say but there is a shortage of Dog Handlers and Investigators; unfortunately they don't recruit to the specialisation I think you have to elect which route you wish to pursue in phase 2 training.

Person I spoke to on phone said it was open at moment. Also said because of my previous service the age limit may be waivered but that it was in no way guaranteed.

Just have to see how it goes next week. Thanks folks.

We saw the figures late 2015 - some ranks are under, some are over, we desperately need lower ranks!

No you don't. The trade have in surplus positions at base rank. You may need certain specialisations but you are actually over manned for the time being.

Interesting. When you get a brief from your own desk Sgt and they tell you exactly what i posted and then you post the complete opposite.............

What do your stats tell you about the PVR rates within RAFP?

Not doubting at all, just saying what we were told and what we are actually seeing real time.

Even the Senior Leadership acknowledge that too many juniors were made redundant and we are suffering for this now. So i'd love to know where all this manpower is actually at!

Guys, please remember this is a recruitment forum - not a general chat forum, so please keep your posts to answering the OP's question.

To be honest DB, I've sat in a classroom full of recruits and listened to our Trade WO and Trade Sponsor spin dits about the current state and future plans for my trade, despite being told something completely different by the manning desk not moments before.

The best thing the OP can do is get an answer from the recruitment desk at his nearest AFCO, as they (should) hold relatively accurate numbers for active recruitment across all of the trades.

Why not Civvy plod? My Bro was RAF, PVR to Civvy plod, gained experience and was then welcomed with open arms to the Aussie plod. He does his job and spends the rest of the time on a nice beach and has a better lifestyle than UK.
