Join up, train up, and then get out while still young.

There is an element of truth in that, i have found:

I joined up at 17, and went through Supply training, I've been in for four years now, im only 21 and I've picked up the following bits:

Car driving license
Motorbike License (paid for with detatchment money)
Fork lift (Counterbalance, Rough Terrain and telehandler
ADR (dangerous goods carriage)
Im off to Leconfield soon for my CAT C's

There are most likely other things, but i cant remember now :)

Ive learnt far more in my first real four years of employment then i ever could at some civilian company. Plus ive had experiences that none of my other mates (civvy) even come close to.

Would suggest to you though you do evaluate your choice of trade, and what it can give you for coming out?

If you wanna be a copper, then join a real police force. If you wanna join the RAF, then join as something that will give you a proper trade, and semi-decent pay, that you can utilise in civvy street, or build on whilst in the RAF ie. college etc.
Join up, train up, and then get out while still young.
Oh, and yes, travel the world free of charge....hehehe

True words from the Ex-Crab. A friend of mine who was RMP (I know you're talking about the RAFP but bear with me), decided to leave the MOB and join the Civ Bill, but was told that he was not suitable. Now bearing in mind that the RMP tend do more investigative police work than the RAFP it just shows how low the Civ Bill regard our Military Police.

As everybody else has said, I would not join the RAF Scuffers, and despite what the
AFCO rep said earlier in this thread, they do talk crap in the AFCO, they have a quota to fill each year and if they have not had enough applications for a certain trade they will glorify it and try to persuad you to apply for these ones.
I wanted to be a chef but they were short of suppliers, not through i eventualy joined as a supplier as they informed me that i could retrade when i got to my trade training unit, it was bollocks,
they knew i could not retrade, but they manged to get anothe supplier to join up.

The key here is to make your own decision, ok so techies are on a higher pay scale (one thing not mentioned when the AFCO's are after certain trades) and RAFP are hated by everyone (even by each other!), ultimately if you've looked into the matter and you still want to join as a Scuffer then do it. The RAFP are moving away now from the old barrier up barrier down syndrome (that's what the MGS are there for) and they are trying to do give the more junior guys (ie the plastic Cpls) more interesting jobs.

Before you jump look at the alternatives I'm still wondering to this day how I ended up in my trade as a Scribbly but that is not to say I would have missed any of my career for the world (apart maybe from the 4 mths in the hot sandy place!)

Recruiters

Recruiters

I was lucky enough to have a decent recruiter. For some reason I was desperate to join up and would have taken nearly any job. But he made me wait until there were vacancies in the trade I originally wanted and as a DE and not a Mech. He wasn't too happy when he found out I got Chivenor straight out of training and he had been trying to get there for 20 years. Anyway I would only recommend joining up as a Techie.

dont be mean everyone lol
If he wants to join the RAF police then let him
He might really want to go in and be really excited about it?
He also might want the military way of life instead of civillian, which is quite valid
Good luck

if you want to be RAFP then good on yer- but everyones warnings are valid. two of my mates who i joined up with were both coppers- now they are both civvie as they hated the job so much, one dog-handler and one station PF. the scuffers do a good job, but if you want to be a proper policeman join the met!

on the otherhand sumping is a great job.... but thats just my veiw!

Nobody else in the RAF likes RAF Coppers. They are social pariahs. I wouldn't wish the job on my worst enemy.....

Check out the latest ditty from PPrune

The general jist is once they start getting promoted (FS & up) they tend to be OK and do a reasonable job.

While they're waiting to get past LAC/A/Cpl Unpaid, they're a bunch of :pDT_Xtremez_25:

PS, since this is in the RESETTLEMENT forum, PLEEEEEEEZZZZZZEE tell me that you're not already in the RAF and are looking to join the Barrier Pilots as a remuster/PVR & Rejoin.

Agreed. The time for being jaded is not basic training...its much later, at least a year or two.
How do you know whats beneath me? You'd be suprised.
