All of my SACs and most of my Cpls look at me like I've got two heads when I ask them for a summary of thier reporting year, a boast sheet if you like, an opportunity to sell themselves...

When I was an SAC/JT and indeed even now, I always gave my 1st RO a precises of my reporting year packed full of good evidence...

Anybody else bother with this, either ROs or subjects?

I do, I fill it in as the year goes on with what I feel may be noteworthy achievements.
It may appear cocky or arrogant but it gives the R.O. something to refer to.
The R.O. may even have forgotten some bits so this gentle reminder is a good thing!

I have in the past, written a pen picture of he reporting period mentioning things of note. Most guys I know don't bother, I'm sure this makes things harder for the 1st RO.

Absolutely. Its a chance for an individual to highlight their achievements and make us aware of things they may be either too modest, unassuming or stupid (harsh but fair) to tell us otherwise. I usually take the boast sheet and compare it to the targets I have set with the individual for the RP then sit down and chat through both to see if I have missed anything vital.

If you don't do a boast sheet you're losing a valuable chance to sell yourself...

All of the above is what I think, I'm just amazed how many SACs/Cpls aren't interested or see it as a chore...

It also shows how the good guys (the ones that are proactive with information) stand head and shoulders above the rest.

I don't necessarily need the information I gain from them, but the exercise itself goes a long way to proving themselves.

Does the present assesment system still allow for the old two or three 8s joke?.:pDT_Xtremez_19:

If not how has it changed for JRs

Would be gratefull(if it has)if somebody would take the time to explain the new system(i left in nov 88)

I insist on them and ensure mine is virually thrust down my 1ROs throat. Let's face it; if you can't be bothered to record what you've achieved, how on earth if your 1RO, who has multiple report to write, going to remember.

It's all about selling yourself; if you don't rate yourself and what you do then why should your 1RO.

Good point KG, my new SNEC made us do this for my assessment which is currently being written.

I like the idea, although I hate doing them, because on a normal day my personality is to get stuff done without fanfare. Whereas others in the office tend to have a little dance every time they achieve the smallest of things.

It means I've got the time to reflect on what I've done and put my point across... it's then my SNEC's job to decide if I'm stringing him a line!:pDT_Xtremez_42:

I understand what you are saying but a bragg/boast sheet isn't exactly what you'd call a fanfare. It's just you letting your 1RO know what you've done over the past 12 months; nobody else needs to see it and like you say, your 1RO will decide how well you've done. It's just helping refresh his tired and old memory.

I used to keep a careful log of everything I did during the year (and I still do come appraisal time). Luckily my last SNEC was into this kind of thing and expected each SAC/jt to produce at least a side of A4. His attitude was if you can't be bothered to write about yourself, why should he be bothered?

He used to expect a pen pic of each SAC/JT from each shift JNCO as well.

Exactly, its too remind the 1st RO what you have done that year. Its then up to the RO to agree with with it, use it or not , depending on your love/hate relationship with him..

Some did with mine, some didn't..:pDT_Xtremez_09:

This thread contains a template that gives you a good insight into the structure of an SJAR.

Enjoy!

Agreed, I've been on the receiving end of an SNCOs first ever F6000.

It wasn't pretty. :pDT_Xtremez_32:

We have a MYSELF form which i give to my guys to fill in has about 8 boxes with achievements, aspirations ,how I as 1RO has helped or hindered so i can improve , asks their career plan, courses done/completed/want. Although i keep notes of what my guys have done throughout the year this gives them a chance to sell themselves and highlight anthing i may of missed plus what they do away from work. The brag sheet is an excellent management tool and shows you what ones have an interest in their future. I did have one come back once where he put in his aspirations "NONE"

These should be mandatory and possibly be formalised

These should be mandatory and possibly be formalised

Hopefully others out there will read this and take action - it is a good practice for a 1RO to pass these out to all their guys/girls (but being pro-active does not hurt).

This is you opportunity to actually have some positive input in to your assessment. Evidence supports the narrative and potential. It is far easier to do it this way and pass on your achievements rather than use the comments box to have a pop.

If you 1RO does not know you, you need to do some thing about it and change your shade of grey!
