Other than penny pinching can anybody shed any light as to why overseas IE has been reduced to a fiver as per the latest T letter? Has it suddenly become cheaper overseas?

The UK wasn't hit as hard as the rest of the world by the recession which makes Sterling a very strong global currency, leading to prices overseas dropping to all time lows for UK residents; hence the reduction in overseas IE.

Oh, hang on a minute, I'm not Gordon Brown and have no need to spout complete and utter horse-sh1t......

I thought it was due to the fact you go straight out on the p1ss when night stopping overseas so no time for 3 min phonecall/washing/paper etc etc!

I believe its down to the fact if you are claiming IE overseas you are 9/10 times claiming the relevant LOA for that area. Just another way to save a bit of cash, oh and you can only claim for a MAX 30 nights away from your parent unit.

Overseas MIE at £10 was only £2.36 a day less than OA, a tad unjustified i personally felt. I would rather go to Vegas and get £10 than Afghan and get £2.36 more per day. So if you put it into perspective...........

At a time when the RAF is trying to reduce its numbers by 10% the need to retain people by giving them the allowances they deserve has gone by the wayside.

They had to give us a decent (2% isn't bad!) payrise to make themselves (the govt) look good but the Service itself seems to putting on the pressure (RAFFT levels for instance) whilst chipping away at the benefits to encourage our departure at little or no cost as redundancies will be a last resort.

Comes into effect from 1 Apr 10. Also, no DA for lads moving from one block to another on the same unit.

The gals have lost their clothing grant, not a massive loss apparently.

The 30 day limit is interesting. If you go on a 6 week course and come home at the weekends, you won't claim for 30 consecutive days, so I expect it's a maximum of 30 nights IE per det/course.

Heard on the grapevine today that there's a whole load more allowance reductions in the pipeline...............have to wait and see.

back to the old ways

back to the old ways

I remember IE (MIE) at the time was only for 30 days.

I did a course that was 10 weeks long, got MIE (£1.50) for the first month then had to pay my own way!

Was well annoyed at the time and that was only relative pennies.

It stinks if you ask me! if i had done the 10 weeks in a hotel I would have been given £20 for every day for the complete time.

Stupid and begs the question of being financially disadvantaged when doing a course. anyone know a good employment lawyer?

So is that 30 days/nights in total or at a time? I know how I read it.

1st April (but I don't think it's an April fool, although the man at the top is)!

Its 30 days in one stint, so if you are away for 40 days you only get 30 days worth. The notice we recieved said that in order to claim for IE again you had to be home for 1 night before you could claim for IE again.
It went on to say that the one night only counts if its the end of the course or job, eg. not a weekend in between a course.
