Some people reckon FS are old now, how feckin old was FS Spray? And that kitchen is almost identical to the one I had in a quarter 3 years ago.

It must be an old clip. The new MQs have the modern 'serving hatch' between the kithen and dining room.

I actually lol'd at that clip and the comments which followed.

Methinks FS Spray had done his LOS 30 and then some.

Serving hatches. Hmmm, whoever thought of these? I can pass the plates through the wall and then walk round to sit down and eat my meal. Or I can just carry the plates through becuase I'm going that way anyway!

There are people still in those quarters, almost certain I know which road is featured on the clip. They haven't changed much except the silly little fence post things have gone.

I cannot believe the ease at which she managed to open those sliding bloody wardrobe doors either. I have never yet managed to open them without a fight.

Things certainly have improved since those days. I didn't see any magnolia woodchip wallpaper anywhere. The poor deprived sods.

Sod the quarters,

Can we a have some MASSIVE bombers back in the RAF again :pDT_Xtremez_26:

Back to the vid, I suppose it shows how good the forces/MOD/DHE/DE/etc are good at maintaining houses to their original build spec .:pDT_Xtremez_42:

Your not chuffing kidding! Our last house had a wall mounted mirror and in a moment of madness (decorating) it ended up getting painted in gloss. DHE blokey says it has to be a natural finish again so I take it off the wall, with almost 60 years worth of magnolia silk emulsion... 1956 was stamped on the back of the mirror and behind it was naked plaster. Trying to get the pollyfilla to cover that lot was a laugh!

New RAF Quarters

My last MQ in England was in Scampton in 87. It had barely changed since I was there as a scaley brat in the mid 50s.

My quarter at Coningsby - 1992. Room sized rugs - the fitter unrolled a carpet then cut it back 18'' from the walls... the underlay was 12'' away. 3rd bedroom didn't have a window... night - night children, don't have nightmares. Best of all though (and I may have mentioned this in a previous thread somewhere) was found in the kitchen drawer. Along with all the paperwork for the house - cooker instructions, gas safety stuff etc, was an inventory list from stores on the RAF furniture you could ask for. At the bottom it said (and I quote)-

JELLY MOULD (WARRANT OFFICERS ONLY)

Makes you proud to be British.

I hope that heater was more efficient than the half ton of housebricks that filled the night storage heaters I had in my MQ at Scampton....the electricity bill nearly bankrupted me.
