It gets later and later

It gets later and later

I think the pay rise was released very late last year.

Wasn't it late March

Labour could give us a 50% payrise. I'd still rather be dry humped by a leperous dog than vote for them.

The following is from a similar thread on Pprune so I can't guarantee its accuracy – though it sounds about right from my memory:

Previous AFPRB reports were:

08 Feb 96
06 Feb 97
29 Jan 98
01 Feb 99
15 Feb 00
09 Feb 01
29 Jan 02
08 Feb 03
23 Feb 04
22 Feb 05
16 Feb 06
01 Mar 07
07 Feb 08
31 Mar 09

The AFPRB report did come out last year around 31 Mar, however some clever Scribbly figured out a way of getting the pay rise info out of JPA a few days before it was oficially announced :pDT_Xtremez_30:

I would be surprised if that happened again this year as there would have been a lot of red faces at the MoD/Treasury that the figure was in the public domain before Liarbour got a chance to spin their above inflation pay rise for the Troops!

Nowt yet, heard rumour last week it was more than 1.5% but less than 2.5%, nothing on Grade step on JPA either

Of late the forces have done ok compared to many in the public sector. Though I accept that in the past its not always been that way.

There going to have to find a balance between public outcry of any decent payrise, due to cuts across the public sector, against HM forces morale (not rocket science which one is going to lose)

I guess that gives a little hope, as like you said we have fared a bit better than the rest of the public sector. My bets on about 1.8%, but the cynic in me tells me it will be split.

I could even see a 3 year deal thingy coming off, a bit like the police got.

3 Year Deal

3 Year Deal

With inflation at a very low point I think the Govt would want to lock us into a low pay rise.

Over the past 5 years we've normally been below the average public sector pay rises, even last years was below the average.

We are not a vote winner and our pay review body seems to place a greater emphasis on spending policies of the govt rather than our needs. I think the pay rise will be relatively small this year as there is no major panic on the retention and recruitment fronts. This would be a short term pain and create a lot of moaning today but will be forgotten by the end of summer.

Anywhere around 2% would be fair if you ask me, inflation in September 09 was very low and could possibly justify a smaller rise. GB is not our friend as we will probably find out today with the evidence provided to the inquiry.

Sorry Busby, can't agree with you there.
You've done ok in the last few years compared to the public sector and treating the forces well is a vote winner.

'07 6.2-9.2%
'08 2.6%
'09 2.8%

We are not a vote-winner directly but with the public perception of the Armed Forces at an all time high a decent pay rise could be a popular move. That said, I think it more likely that a message of financial restraint would be seen to be the prudent thing for any government that still hopes for re-election. Cabinet ministers have already said they will turn down their 1.5% pay rise so they can't be accused of hypocrisy.

For what it's worth, my guess is 1.8% across the board rising to 3.5% for the lowest ranks. But a guess is exactly what it is.

A decent payrise across the forces and public sector would actually cost less than it initially seems, after all every department seems to be getting cut down and we are heading for for more reductions as well.

Stage the rise, a small bit now and the rest in 6 months after everyone has been sacked. Winner!

We've been told that there will be no rise at all this year.
I hope you get a decent one though, its well deserved. I'm loving the usual forces pessimism though! You'll get an above inflation rise, its a dead cert.
