If I gave you a bit of metal and said it was a Bomb detector and you go "Oh ok sounds good I'll use it" you really do get what you deserve. Darwin used to go on about this sort of stuff. Natual selection and that.

I saw this on the tv program "Newsnight"

It was the most shocking thing I've seen in ages.

That some Iraqi Government official was allowed to spend the equivalent of £50,000,000 on what is just bent car aerials, nothing more.... To stop people being killed by IEDs!

Also that the UK con-artist Jim MCCormick was allowed to get away with selling these bent car aerials as a method of detecting IEDs and therefore saving lives.

When interviewed on the tv program he did the classic bullsh*t baffles brains...

"Using different cards, it can detect anything from explosives, to dollar bills and even elephants"
"In optimum conditions upto a kilometer away"
"The cards are tuned to a channel, it is tuned to a frequency"

I'm am no armourer but even I'm pretty certain that a lump of TNT, or a dollar bill or even elephants do not emitt anything on any frequency. Even over a distance of one centmeter.

It turned out that these cards, that are used with the car aerial. Were in fact, not a memory card at all but a cheap security strip that prevents you from stealing items from shops. They were just made to look like a memory card.

I'm shocked, HOW WAS THIS ALLOWED TO HAPPEN? How many were killed as a result of this con artist and big Government f*ck-up?

The director of a company which sold a bomb-detecting device to 20 countries, including Iraq, has been arrested.

ATSC's Jim McCormick, 53, was detained on Friday on suspicion of fraud by misrepresentation, Avon and Somerset police said. He has since been bailed.

It comes after a BBC investigation alleged the ADE-651 did not work.

Earlier, the British government announced a ban on the export of the device to Iraq and Afghanistan, where British forces are serving.

Got to wonder how many kickbacks he gave the government officials who signed off £40k a time on this crap.

James Randi has been on this guys case for a while. I seem to remember this surfaced a while ago, and got some investigative wheels in motion.

This is evidence of fraud and corruption.

@Stickyfingers, the guys on the ground are just ordinary policeman and soldiers who have been given a piece of kit they are assured by their senior commanders is a reputable and working piece of kit.

Is it "Natural Selection" that these people get blown to pieces, or the areas they are assigned to protect are attacked because a fraudster has bribed senior members of their own government to buy this tat?

I hope the Iraqi government requests his extradition and deals with him as they see fit. You couldnt make up a sory like this, unbelievable. There must have been some Iraqi involvement in this whole scam though, it would seem impossible that he managed to perpetuate such a fraud without somebody turning a blind eye or taking a kick back.
I wonder what will happen if it can be proved that any UK personel have been killed or injured as a result of the use of this "device"?

I think we should give the cnut one and put him in the middle of a fcukin mine field. Perhaps he should be sent to a rehab hospital to see victims of what happens when these bombs go off!

I suspect the electronic cards will be his undoing legally.
He may be able to argue "faith" and use his smoke and mirrors on a weak minded jury but if he has had these cards made up and marked specifically for TNT and other explosives, in Arabic as the BBC claimed then he's fecked. There is a definite intent to deceive.

I think we should make up a special extradition treaty for him once he's been found guilty and allow him to serve his brief sentence in Baghdad.

The guys a total waste of air and molecules.

He surely must have absolutely knew that his 'detector' didn't work, I reckon he just lined his pockets thank you very nicely kind sir would you like a couple thousand boxes more while I pop this here luverly dosh into my secret offshore account....

I am amazed and bemused as to how this thing ever got clearance to be shipped out? No checks at all? Or did he build one that somehow did work and then just scammed after that?

There are no words really.
