You would have to do your best and see what score you get. The AFCO staff would then tell you what trades you were eligible for. Knowing the score is of no help what so ever in helping you achieve it.
Secondly you don't undertake AST for Officer branches you go to OASC and do a whole batch of different tests.

what level of fitness should i have.

Very, very fit!!

is it easy to get in or hard ?
One of the hardest trades to get into for 3 reasons:

1. We don't recruit very many each year
2. You have to be very fit and show good leadership potential because you will graduate from trade training as an Acting Cpl.
3. For each place hundreds apply, including many people already in the RAF. For PEdO you would almost definitely require a degree in Physical Education, or a proven record in managing a range of Outdoor Activities.

You're doing all the right things especially with the lifeguarding and coaching side of things. See if you can expand your lifeguarding into ASA teaching and your coaching into committee and administration aspects of those sports. Go to the AFCO and get some advice on PTI vs PEdO but I know we recruit so few PEdOs each year you'd probably be better off applying for PTI first with your current qualifications and experience.

Apptitude test for PTI is quite difficult

You are led in to an ordinary looking room

However this room contains alot of mirrors but not all are obvious

AFCO staff will judge you on a number of things related to this

How many you find - It's important PTI's spot mirrors straight away a very basic job requirement

Posing - don't just glance in them pose man pose take a moment to admire your self

Flex your arm Mucles, smooth your hair and give your self a self congratulatory wink

(One recruit who flexed his arm muscles and then kissed them was fast tracked to a commision)

There may be a low mirror or a full length mirror - make full use off these

The very least a full mirror demands is a 360 degree slow admiring spin
(Remember to look in the mirror all the time the body is slowly turning - slap both hand on buttocks and grin)

If these's just a low mirror (or this should be done in a full length mirror)

Throw your self forward, do some press ups whilst looking at your self
Stand back up, swing arms, crack neck from side to side and give a loud ARRR or Hoo Haa to draw attention to your superior body

If theres a basket or football there spin it on one finger whilst pointing out the AFCO staff could do with a run themselves

Remember the whole object is to convince the AFCO Staff that you will never do a full days work in your life

Good luck, all the best

Wasn't sure where to post this so i've put it here. I know a young lad who has his date to join the Army (early Jan). However, two years ago he spent a night in the cells and received a police caution for drunk and disorderly I think and has failed to disclose this information to the recruiters. Do you think he needs to go back to the CIO and inform them? Is a caution a criminal conviction? I wouldn't like to see the lad start his training and subsequently get binned for failing to inform them of his misdemeanour. Any advice on this would be much appreciated so that I can advise him accordingly. Thanks.

Mate, if hes starting early Jan they would have already done security clearance on him, and will know about anything thats happened in his past already. My understanding is that all recruits have to be vetted before beginning basic training. A caution is not a big deal for the army, there are lads and lasses who join who have (in some cases) more than one conviction.

It is really hard to get in as a PTI not just because of the difficult aptitude tests but becasue they only want 15 in the raf all over the country and only want one P.E officer so its really hard to get in anyway. but might aswell try! good luck (Y)

you would be able to re apply. I went for Aerospace battle manager or fighter control office. whatever they call it this week. I didn't get it and they said i could reapply in a year. I failed at interview. I since decided to become an AMM mechanical. I rang the AFCO the day i got the failed interview letter. they said i could reapply straight away for AMM.

BTW, it's Physical Education Officer, or PEdO. not PEO.
