Camps are you what you make of them - wherever you are.

Was it really sh1te, or did you just sit in your w@nk chariot moaning like fcuk when you could have got out yer hoop and made something of it?

Some of the sh1tiest dets I've been on have actually been the best.....

Kinloss for me but with many of the same sentiments...and I did a hodload more time up there as well which makes me doubly despise the place...The fact that you are so far from anywhere except fecking rocks and water etc did my swede in as well...

Best was STM...Still realistically far from anywhere but it had beaches I could sit on where I didn't have to wear a wooly hat in July like I would have had to at ISK, loads of tourist burds in the summer and loads of local burds in the winter, good rugby and cricket in an idylic area...so obviously we got rid of it as a flying station even though as a Nim base we were only 10 mins flying from a great training area that took us 1.5 hours to reach from the back of beyond that is ISK...

kinda became the unofficial molesworth crew anthem, remember a lad from GEF called Ian lupton leaning against bar and moving aside to let the barmaid out and falling full length behind the bar only fools and horses stylee, never spilt a drop, good man :pDT_Xtremez_19:
yeah, and i recall one night a group of locals turning up looking to start trouble only for richard? the landlord to run out and point out that the pub w'ast full of 18 year old shineys and photo plotters anymore but lived in by lads who had been around the block a bit and more likely to be nearer 18 stone than 18 they ****ed off a bit sharp, for a big fat landlord he "cared" for his female staff very well iirc.

13 month Nightmare!

13 month Nightmare!

I have to say Honington was not good but for me the DAC at 16MU RAF Stafford has to be the worst Unit. Despite the location being good (close to the M6 you can walk into town within 20 mins, great train links- everything Honington lacked!) but the management and job was the pits- why would I want to wear a Uniform and 'clock in'! And teh wonderful inspections to ensure my coveralls were pressed- I jess not! The only HIGHLIGHT was to be on Non Cadre TSW or the ceremonial Flight (yes they were the highlights!)

A truly horrible experience although I defied the DAC's in house rule and escaped a 'screening' and left after 13 months to the pleasures of Ascension Island truly - chalk and cheese!

'A lot of votes for Honnington there... and with good reason TWCU was the worst ever in terms of constant work / backstabbing / groundcrew hating pilots...'

I can't relate to this Shugster, TWCU must have taken a turn for the worse then fella from the days I was on it (81-85). Mind you it did feel a whole lot better being accommodated in a decent BB at Barnham Camp rather stuck on Honners, which was a ****hole.

I was detached to RAF Marham to help with the Bruggen re-basing and it is by far the worst four months I have had in the RAF. Thank god it was only four months otherwise I might have ended up as a statistic when I hanged myself!!!!

I can't say I've been at a bad camp, including 2 tours on the XV(R) sausage machine, most of the time it's what you make of it. Having said that, I certainly would be saying different if I'd worked at CMU.

For me it has to be working for the wicked witch and the chimp of AMF at Leuchars. I hated every dam minute of that place, when the RAF discharged me I could not get out of there fast enough, I was told on a friday afternoon and I was packed up and cleared by Tuesday morning and that included driving the van of stuff down to my new house in Wilts and going back again to clear and get my car.

Wattashame

Wattashame

Have to agree with Eric the Red here, Wattasham. One bus a week to Stowmarket, out on Monday back on Wednesday. One pub, Jim's, in walking distance. Blagged an exchange 7 months later back to where I came from. Not a happy experience but met some great people making the best of a bad job.

Gotta agree with you there DOC, it wasn't named Wattashame without reason. Best thing I did was to live out with a couple of Junior Magicians from the engine bay in Ipswich. Much nicer experience being amongst civilisation and lodsa horny girlies:pDT_Xtremez_30: nearby too.

Brize mid-70's. Full of Brits, Belfasts and VC10s plus hangers-on like PTS and other assorted organisations. There were that many people on base you could walk into a packed Spotlight Club and not recognise a soul. Decided to escape after the second suicide in two months (second one was same section) and I didn't want to be the third!
