I would (don't like the Spams anyway)

http://www.boycottscotland.co.uk/

However as for the Television I believe that Vladimir Kosma Zworykin, a Russian-born American inventor, and Philo Taylor Farnsworth also American are actually credited for the birth of modern electrical type TV pictures rather than the rotating disc system that John Logie Baird designed.

I think that the yank that wrote this hasn't thought it through fully lol

Television Set down the remote control, unhook the cable and turn off the television set as its inventor was born in Helensburgh. I know it might be difficult, but think about all the time you will have free to do other things, just make sure you walk to them.

You really think the yanks are going to unplug their cable and tv's? :pDT_Xtremez_14::pDT_Xtremez_14:

As a jock and a (very) distant (sort of) relative of John Logie Baird I feel compelled to jump to his defence. Unfortunately I know sod all about tv's/electronics etc but I wiki'd it (everyone knows wiki has the answer to EVERYTHING and is always correct! :pDT_Xtremez_25:) and found this:

'In its early stages of development, television employed a combination of optical, mechanical and electronic technologies to capture, transmit and display a visual image. By the late 1920s, however, those employing only optical and electronic technologies were being explored. All modern television systems rely on the latter, although the knowledge gained from the work on mechanical-dependent systems was crucial in the development of fully electronic television.'

So yeah, he didn't exactly make a li-cu-di tiv with the hud but he got there first with the original blueprint that made it possible for the yanks to supersize it.

'Mon the jocks! :pDT_Xtremez_30:

Funny site, though if you look at the Web page address, you will find it wasn't done by a Spam unless he/she is this side of the pond, as that page has got a UK Web Address.

As for the development of Television (and a couple of other inventions on that list) best you watch or download, Jeremy Clarkson's Inventions that Changed the World programmes about the Television and the Telephone. (I think they are on Youtube and they are on Rapidshare). One thing I didn't know from the wiki entries on the subject however, was that Baird and Farnsworth collaborated in the late 1930's after they had both been stiffed by RCA and Marconi-EMI in the US and UK. (Farnsworth came up with the Idea for his system when he was 14 on a school blackboard, but it took him 7 years get to a position where he could build it, while Baird (the archetypal mad inventor), built something that he got to work first by what could only be called a trial and error method (with a lot of error).

.......while Baird (the archetypal mad inventor), built something that he got to work first in very much a trial and error method (with a lot of error).

Yes as I recall from one TV show, he took someone off the street to use as a model nearly killing them when one of the spinning discs exploded. Although Baird manage to transmit a moving picture using this mechanical method, he cannot be held on high as the inventor of what we know today as television. However, this is dependent on whos fence you are sitting on.

As much as I hate to say this and it is between gritted teeth that unfortunately the inventor of modern TV as we know it was ....American.

This one here was the original Spam site

http://www.boycottscotland.com/

That other one just seems to be a ****take of it. And nice work Fella.

The website which Wing Boy linked contains this quote.

"......Most especially after the horrific events of 9/11, the world needs to be reminded that terrorism must be punished and never rewarded. Terrorists must never be shown compassion or mercy, for these people have no respect for human life. The British, who ironically have themselves been victim to numerous acts of terrorism on their own soil, seem to have forgotten. They need a reminder, and protesting by boycotting travel and business with Scotland and the United Kingdom is the best way of doing so.........."

Maybe the Americans should be reminded of their State Sponsored Terrorism in the form of donations to NORAID over many years. Of which in the above statement, the author kindly reminds us of such terrorist acts which were funded by these donations.

The Spams should take a closer loook towards home methinks.

Forget it. Americans live in a land of superlatives, where you are the Wicked evil witch or Bruce Willis - always, and never anything in between. Anything else is way too complicated for them.

If it couldn't be written by Disney, it simply cannot be true.

Nice idea but a bit pointless I reckon. The average spam has a very parochial view of the world and lacks the perspective to be able to analyse anything that happens outside of their own borders. As usual, the 'boycott Scotland' campaign is simply a knee-jerk reaction to the decision to free Megrahi, even though IMHO the decision was crass and wrong.

Should we have freed him? I don't know. Were we naive enough to believe that Libya wouldn't make a big thing about it? Most definitely! Do I give a to55 if some Septics boycott Scotland, not really no. As individuals I like Americans but as a nation they are a bunch of t055ers, most of them won't know about the many blue-on-blue occasions, they won't know of the Libyna jet shot down by the Spams and will be horrified if you suggest they sponsored Terrorism of any sort prior to 9/11. They live in their own little bubble where everyone else doesn't matter.

Off Topic

Ref Staxes Blue on Blue comment.

The Pen Club, Akrotiri.

2003 and into the first month or two of Telic.

Pen Club full of Yanks from the nearby Tent City.

Sky news reporter annonces the loss of a Royal Air Force Tornado which appears to have been shot down by a US Patriot Missile Battery.

Yanks start jumping up and down, punching the air and whoop whooping. Shouting "yeh, we got the Mutha Funka etc etc"

Near riot ensues as all the Brits are not amused.

Yanks can't understand what's wrong.

On Topic.

Government heads should roll because of the release, even if it's just to save face. As for boycotting Scotland, I've been doing that for years, mainly because it's too far away :raf:

Still Off Topic Yeah, I seem to remember that!

You may also recall the KC135 whose crew retracted the nose gear on the ground.

When the news came through to Ops, one of the SNCO controllers stood up amongst the assembled brass of both nations and quipped..

"Knowing our luck, they'll lift the nose up and find a dead Brit underneath"

Cue plenty of stifled guffaws and crinkled mouths all round :S

Well the Spams did stiff at least a couple of Libyan IL-76's on the ground with CBU's off a F-111F early one morning in Apr 1986. but I do think STAX think's that the Airbus shot down over the Gulf by the US Navy was Libyan, no it wasn't, it was Iranian.

The thing that the Yank's seem to forget, is that THEIR last Government (i.e. Bush) has signed a treaty with Libya, giving immunity to officials of both countries for past actions against each other, So what makes the guy released any different.

A lot of them delude themselves that they are Scottish or Irish yet most of them couldn't even point to the USA on a map let alone Europe.

That was the one and only plus of 911, it brought home to them what terrorists actually do.

Well I was out in Applecross today with my U.S. cousin that is over on holiday, he bought us all lunch at the cost of £70, I think the boycott needs more work tbh. :pDT_Xtremez_19:

As for the boycott , crack on boycott Scotland , maybe now half the yanks will now convert to being Irish now rather than Jockanese.
